The Great Exchange!

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of our debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. ~ Colossians 2:13-14

A great exchange took place on that great and terrible day when Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, shed His innocent blood to make propitiation to God the Father, for those who would repent and believe (Romans 3:21-26). God the Father made God the Son who knew no sin become sin on behalf of those who repent and believe so that they might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21).

At that moment, when mercy and justice kissed, God the Father treated His one and only Son as if He had lived the life of every sinner. And, in exchange, God the Father treated those whom He would save as if they had lived the perfect, sinless life of His Son.

Yes, my Christian brethren, by the grace of God alone, through Christ alone Jesus' finished work on the cross made it possible for God the Father to declare us innocent, justified, forgiven--thus, by His mercy, exchanging the filthy garments of our sin for the white robes of Christ's righteousness.

Indeed, it was a great exchange!

Christian, we must tell people about this great exchange. We must tell the world not only that Jesus died on the cross for sinners; not only that He rose from the grave, forever defeating sin and death; but, as a result of God's great love, God allowed His Son to give His life as a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28)--to sacrifice, to exchange His life for many.

Indeed, it was a great exchange!

Oh evangelist, you must make much of the cross of Christ. In a day when false teachers abound who make light of or completely ignore the cross of Christ, we must trumpet to the world that a great exchange took place on that tree. Yes what the Spirit of God has whispered to our hearts and minds, we must shout from the housetops (Matthew 10:27). "The Lord Jesus Christ exchanged His life for mine! May He do the same for you, O wretched sinner! Repent and believe the Gospel!"

Indeed, it was a great exchange!
