“What is appropriate attire for a lady to wear when witnessing? What is the line for modesty?”

  • “I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves . . . women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.” – 1 Timothy 2:9,10 (NLT)
    • That passage gives God’s guidelines for Christian living, not just for going out witnessing. Your clothing should not draw attention to you, as you don’t want to distract from God.
  • Guys are much more visually oriented than ladies. It’s no accident that the majority of the porn industry is geared toward men. What men see gets them excited, as where what ladies emotionally feel moves them. Having this knowledge, ladies, you need to watch how you dress. When you dress tight or skimpy you create a huge temptation for the guys. The Bible says that God will hold us responsible for how we treat each other (Ps. 62:12; Prov. 24:11,12; Lk. 10:25-37). After you die do you want to explain to God why you encouraged guys to lust by your flesh-flaunting attire?
    • “Make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way.” – Rom. 14:13 (NIV), (also see Mt. 5:27,28)
  • John MacArthur said, “How does a woman discern the sometimes fine line between proper dress and dressing to be the center of attention? The answer starts in the intent of the heart. A woman should examine her motives and goals for the way she dresses. Is her intent to show the grace and beauty of womanhood? Is it to reveal a humble heart devoted to worshipping God? Or is it to call attention to herself and flaunt her beauty? Or worse, to attempt to lure men sexually? A woman who focuses on worshipping God will consider carefully how she is dressed, because her heart will dictate her wardrobe and appearance.”
  • A good rule of thumb: Is it tight or revealing? Is your dress drawing attention to your shapes and curves or skin? If it does, it’s probably worth skipping.
