What sermon prep advice can you give to a pastor wanting to preach the gospel in church every week? During my altar call time, what points would you recommend I hit every week?”

Make the altar call a part of your sermon prep. What is the most important part of the service? Every pastor will say the part that involves salvation. If the gospel is the most important part of the service prepare for it as such. Don’t wing it; you wouldn’t do that with your sermon.

· Explain to your church what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. You don’t want them to feel endlessly beaten up as you week after week go through the Law.

· Use different anecdotes/springboards for the gospel. To keep things fresh for your saved congregation (and to give them ammunition for their personal witnessing), use short stories to illustrate a key point of the altar call. The Evidence Bible has many such stories at your fingertips. You can also start off your altar call by answer a tough spiritual question.

Suggested outline:

1) Anecdote / tough question - natural realm
2) Law
3) Gospel
4) Faith + Repentance = Forgiveness
