NoHo Metro Open-Air Audios for June 30, 2012

Richard Henry is a member of Calvary Bible Church, in Burbank, CA. Calvary Bible has one of the finest evangelism teams in Southern California. Richard contacted me via email in response to a request I made for someone to join me and my team at the North Hollywood Metro Station, and to serve as the team's videographer. I met Richard for the first time this morning.

I usually don't allow anyone with whom I am unfamiliar, especially someone I am meeting for the first time, stand on my box or behind my pulpit to preach in the open-air. But, I make rare exceptions if the person, like Richard, comes recommended by a church or school (such as The Master's Seminary), or evangelist I know and respect.

Richard was understandably and appropriately nervous when I asked him if he wanted to preach for the first time. I prayed for Richard, and then he stepped behind my pulpit. Here's the audio of Richard breaking the "sound barrier."

Today was the second Saturday I was joined by Richard and Telda Peskett. Richard is a student at The Master's Seminary. Richard and Telda are from Great Britain.

This morning, Richard felt as I have felt many times--ill-prepared and lacking the motivation to preach. We prayed together, and Richard stepped behind the pulpit to preach. What I heard was not a man who was ill-prepared and unmotivated. I heard a man who was passionate about the gospel and reaching the lost with the life-saving message of Jesus Christ.

I've only known Richard and Telda for a couple of weeks; but I've quickly seen what a special couple they are, and that Richard is gifted to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Here's his open-air from this morning.

I was blessed to preach twice this morning. My first open-air, which I hope to upload to YouTube soon, was based on 1 Peter 2:18-24. My second open-air, which is the below audio, was based on 1 Timothy 1:8-11.

One of the great blessings this morning, which is becoming a regular occurrence, is the number of English and Spanish bibles we gave away. We probably went through thirty or more bibles, today. I see the giving away of bibles is an indication to me that people are listening and, on some level, being affected by the preaching.

It was another wonderful morning of evangelism and fellowship at the North Hollywood Metro Station.

Tony's Open-Air Preaching Bible

Saved by Jesus Christ: An Atheist Leaves the Religion of Atheism

Every day, we receive dozens (if not hundreds) of emails at Living Waters--the good, the bad, and the ugly. Nothing encourages us more than emails like the one we received today from Don.

~~~~~~~~
Hello On The Box
I've been watching your show for a month.
I was an atheist for 22 years. Two months ago a Christian friend gave me a copy of Ray's book, 'You Can Lead an Atheist to Evidence but You Can't Make Him Think'. God really used this book to open my eyes. I have only one friend who kept trying to reach me. He cared enough about my soul and where I would spend eternity not to give up on me. I would never listen to anyone on the subject of God, and most certainly if you tried to talk to me about it...I would end up getting angry. I was one of those angry skeptics. Great idea, to have an atheist foreword the book....and he asks, "Are you up for the challenge?" That really grabs your attention!
I mocked and ridiculed anyone who believed in God. I called evil good and good evil. Most certainly, "atheism is the epitome of stupidity" like Ray says. I was one of those unreasonable people. The book left me with NO reason for why I didn't believe in God. The reality is true, I didn't want to be morally responsible to God; I loved sin too much, so I denied the existence of God. No other reason. For the first time, it got me out of my stupidity and shocked me back into reality. I began to fear the "unknown" of what would happen if I died. I began to fear hell...terribly. The truth is, I never thought any further than my nose.
I was soundly saved out of atheism! I can say praise God! It is only by his grace that I am even saved today. I put on the Lord Jesus Christ and repented of my wicked, blaspheming ways! I am thankful to God for his patience! God's patience can only last for so long. I cannot sit by, and watch as my family, friends, or anyone be sent to hell. I am so excited to share with others what has happened to me, and I have already been able to share the truth with one of my atheist friends. I am going to give them a copy of Ray's book.
I am reading my Bible, and I've visited the church my friend attends.
On The box is great! A great help in learning how to witness. Thank you for your ministry. Stay encouraged and don't give up on anyone.
I ask prayer for my wife. She is an atheist and refuses to listen to anything I have to say. I trust God to save her, as he did me...because if he can save me, he can save anyone.
Thanks, Don
~~~~~~~~

The angels rejoice in Heaven when one sinner repents! And we at Living Waters rejoice, too.

Don hasn't checked his ability to reason or his common sense at the door. No. By the power of the Holy Spirit, Don has come to his senses. If, Like Don once was, you are someone trapped in the false religion of Atheism; please read the following closely. Your very soul may depend on it.

When you die (and we will all die someday), you will stand before God and give an account for your life--every decision made, every action taken, every idea thought, every word spoken. He will judge each of us according to the perfect moral standard of His Law. If we have sinned against Him in any way (and all sin is against God)--if we have lied, stolen, looked with lust, taken His name in vain, hated another person, or coveted someone else's possessions; He will find us guilty of breaking His Law.

We also sin against God when we fashion a Jesus in our mind to suit ourselves--when we create a Jesus in our imagination with whom we are comfortable. This is called idolatry. It is idolatrous to change the character of Jesus Christ and make Him into Someone who turns a blind eye to sin or even applauds sin.

When you stand before God, if He finds you guilty of breaking His Law, He will punish your sin. And the punishment God has ascribed for sin is eternity in Hell. He must do what is right, because He is holy, righteous, and just.

I don't want that for you. I don't want that for Richard Dawkins and Dan Barker. I don't want that for the false converts filling pulpits around the world. I don't want that for anyone.

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift. In addition to being holy, righteous, and just; God is also, loving, merciful, and kind.

2,000 years ago, God the Father sent His Son to earth in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus was and is fully God and fully Man, yet without sin. Unlike you and me, He never once violated the Law of God in thought, word, or deed. He couldn't because He was and is God in the flesh--the sinless Lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world.

Jesus lived the perfect life (a life pleasing to God the Father) that neither you nor I can live. About 33 years into His earthly existence, He voluntarily went to the cross. He suffered and died a horrific, bloody death to take upon Himself the punishment you and I rightly deserve for our sins against God. Three days later, He forever defeated sin and death when He rose from the grave. He is alive today, and He will return at a time of the Father's choosing.

What God commands of you is the same thing He commands of me and all people everywhere. He commands that we repent (turn from our sin and turn toward God); and, by faith alone, receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

You may have heard this (or something similar) in the past, maybe even in church. But it is not enough to nod your head in agreement and then believe in a Jesus whose character is different than the one, true Jesus of the Bible.

Like everyone else, you must come to Jesus Christ on His terms, not your own.

Please, repent of your sin and, by faith and by faith alone, receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, while He has given you time.

And let me encourage you to watch this important documentary.

Oreo Cookies: Quit Shoving It Down Our Throats!

By Tony Miano

This image is featured on Oreo Cookies' official Facebook page. Along with posting the picture, the moderator of the Oreo Cookies page added the sentiment, "Proudly support love."

Here's the historic timeline for Oreo Cookies slogans:
1950: “Oh! Oh! Oreo!
1980: “For the Kid in All of Us.”
1982: “America’s Best Loved Cookie.”
1982: “The One and Only.”
1986: “Who’s the Kid with the Oreo Cookie?”
1990: “Oreo, the Original Twister.”
2004: “Milk’s Favorite Cookie.”
Sadly, Kraft Foods has decided to make Oreo the favorite cookie, not of the beloved liquid dairy product, but of late Harvey Milk and others engaged in the depravity of homosexuality (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) and those who applaud their sin (Romans 1:32).

As of 10:15 AM this morning, this post on the Oreo Facebook page had 228,257 "likes," 70,095 "shares," and 38, 340 comments. The first comment that caught my eye was this one:
"As a pro-equality, politically conservative, socially liberal Christian (yes, we DO exist), I cannot love this enough. I'm buying more Oreos just because a bunch of idiots want to start a boycott, and I'd buy even MORE if Nabisco actually made rainbow-colored Oreos in support of equality. Well done!"
After reading this comment, I just wanted to hurl my cookies. Josh Colletta, the man who wrote the comment on the Oreo Facebook page, is not a Christian. His words reveal the condition of his heart. And Jesus would agree.
And [Jesus] called the people to him and said to them, “Hear and understand: it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.” Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?” He answered, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up. Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” But Peter said to him, “Explain the parable to us.” And he said, “Are you also still without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled? But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.” ~ Matthew 15:10-20
No genuine follower of Christ should ever support a movement, the foundation of which is built entirely upon the perverted sinfulness of mankind. And anyone professing to be a Christian that supports such blasphemous agendas is, in all likelihood, a false convert who is deceived, lost, and facing God's wrath and judgment, lest they repent and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. I will be sending the link to this article to Mr. Colletta hoping he will do just that--repent and believe the gospel.

Christians--that is, Christians who actually open their mouths to share the gospel with unsaved people--are often accused by unbelievers of shoving their religion down people's throats. Sadly, some professing Christians have bought into the lie and will, from time to time, stop in front of an open-air preacher and say something like, "You know, this doesn't work. You shouldn't shove the Bible down people's throats."

Kraft Foods' efforts to force the Gay Agenda down the throats of their customers, with every bite of an Oreo cookie, drips with hypocrisy and irony, like milk dripping from a freshly dunked Oreo cookie.

When companies liked Kraft Foods, General Mills, JC Penney, Target, Starbucks, and others push the Gay Agenda on their customers, it is seen by the world as a positive act of tolerance. But when customers say "no" to efforts by companies to mainstream and normalize sinful and deviant behaviors like homosexuality, the customer is seen by these same companies, and by segments of society, as intolerant and forcing something down people's throats.

We live in a twisted world--twisted like an Oreo cookie in the hands of a child.

Every day there seems to be another company, another corporate promotion to endorse some of the worst forms of depravity known to man--the homosexual lifestyle. And they will keep doing it. These companies will continue to listen to proponents of the Gay Agenda until doing so adversely affects their bottom line. So long as the quarterly earnings continue to increase, corporations will continue to placate and endorse every form of perversion and other forms of sin.

The time will come when every person will give an account, not only for what they have thought, said, and done; but also for what they endorsed.

Please read the following closely. Your very soul may depend on it.

When you die (and we will all die someday), you will stand before God and give an account for your life--every decision made, every action taken, every idea thought, every word spoken. He will judge each of us according to the perfect moral standard of His Law. Homosexuality: A Worship Disorder

"Pagan idolatry is twisted because it is the act of rejecting the Creator and replacing worship of him with the worship of what he has made. Similarly, homosexual acts are twisted because they reject God's natural design for human sexuality. Thus, homosexuality and idolatry are related. Both are evidence of a twisted distortion of God's design for men and women, both dehumanize men and women, both are rooted in a rejection of the Creator. That is to say, the distortions of idolatry and same-sex intercourse are foremost rooted in a worship disorder (Romans 1:21, Romans 1:24–25)." ~ Tony Reinke

No Other Rule of Faith

"Rescuing those who are being held captive by religious indoctrination must always begin by establishing the Bible as the supreme authority for the truth about salvation. Christ and His Word must rule over men and their religious traditions because God has exalted His Word above all things (Psalm 138:2). The Bible is the most authoritative, influential and powerful book ever written. It is the standard for discerning truth from error (1 John 4:6). It is sufficient to function as the sole, infallible rule of faith (2 Tim. 3:14-16). The Bible does not refer us to any other rule of faith because everything we must know, understand and believe to be reconciled to God is found in Scripture (1 Cor. 15:1-4)."

A Sad Truth about the 'Average' Evangelical Christian

"The average evangelical Christian who claims to be born again and have eternal life is not doing as much to propagate his or her faith as the busy adherents of the cults, handing out their papers on the street corners and visiting from house to house and going door to door."

Is Open-Air Preaching Effective? Ask Azusa

Pictured above is Richard Peskett, talking to a young man named Azusa. Richard and his wife, Telda, are from the United Kingdom. They are in the United States while Richard attends The Master's Seminary.

Richard and Telda joined us, for the first time, at the North Hollywood Metro Station, on Saturday. They proved to be a wonderful addition to the team. I'm hard-pressed to think of another couple with whom I've served on the streets who engaged more people in conversation, in a three-hour period of time, than Richard and Telda. It was so encouraging to periodically scan the area and, in almost every instance, see Richard and Telda talking to someone.

Richard also open-air preached. Needless to say the distinctive British accent was an attention-getter. That aside, Richard preached with a combination of passion and compassion, firmness and gentleness that made me want to listen. And his presentation of the law and the gospel was spot on.

There were four of us who open-air preached, Saturday morning. And, between the four of us, we preached for more than two hours.

When we weren't open-air preaching we engaged people in conversation and distributed tracts, along with the rest of the team. One of Richard's conversations was with Azusa (pictured above). Richard talked to Azusa for some time, until Azusa had to catch a bus.

Azusa's initial opposition to the message was quickly and decisively overcome by the truth of God's Word. In Richard's estimation, Azusa seemed deeply convicted by the law and understood the gospel of God's amazing grace.

Open-air preaching is one of the best springboards into conversations with strangers. A simple question like, "What do you think about what the preacher is saying?" and you are in an unforced, natural conversation. The fact that open-air preaching is taking place in the area makes conversations with strangers very reasonable to the stranger.

Is open-air preaching effective? Ask Azusa.

God Demands More Than Lip Service

Is Open-Air Preaching Effective? Ask Elizabeth

By Tony Miano

Recently, I wrote:
"I repeatedly receive emails from Christians who are led by presumably well-trained pastors, who seem to check hermeneutics and exegesis at the door of evangelism. While I will always be there to encourage my discouraged brethren, I will never again engage theologians who allow their prejudices and fears to cause them to swap exegesis for eisegesis. I will never do it again, because of the Matts in the world.

"As long as the Lord gives me a voice and breath in my lungs, I will continue to preach the gospel in the open-air."
The Lord encouraged me again, yesterday, to not bother arguing about the relevance, propriety, and effectiveness of open-air preaching.

I spent yesterday afternoon at the North Hollywood Metro Station. I was blessed to be joined by Pastor Geoff Kirkland and his family of Christ Fellowship Bible Church, of St. Louis, MO. Together, Pastor Geoff and I preached for more than two hours.

During my last open-air, I noticed a young lady standing about 10-15 feet to my left. I could tell by the look in her eyes and her facial expressions she was intently listening. Not long before I finished preaching, I noticed the lady approach Pastor Geoff.

I stepped down from my step ladder and began to pack up, while watching Pastor Geoff's conversation from a short distance. I thought of joining the conversation, but thought it better to watch from afar. Even from a distance, I could tell something beautiful was happening.

The lady (I would later learn her name was Elizabeth), had tears rolling down her cheeks. I watched as Pastor Geoff excitedly, yet gently, showed Elizabeth passages of Scripture in his Bible. Even though her cheeks were tear-stained, she had a smile on her face...a look of joy.

Pastor Geoff asked me for a pen, which I didn't have. I offered Elizabeth a Bible. I later learned the Bible I gave her would be the first one she ever owned.

Pastor Geoff borrowed a pen from a nearby vendor. He wrote detailed directions for Elizabeth to help her find and attend Grace Community Church.

Elizabeth had to go, so we said our good-byes. I told Elizabeth we would be praying for her. Her eyes were still filled with tears; and the smile never left her face. I had a sense, by her demeanor and the look on her face, Elizabeth didn't want to leave. It seemed to me she wanted to stay and continue talking and fellowshipping with us.

When Elizabeth walked away, I asked Pastor Geoff, "Well? Don't leave me hanging! What happened?"

According to Pastor Geoff, Elizabeth approached him and, with excitement in her voice, asked, "How do I become a part of this? Who do I talk to? I want to get involved!"

Pastor Geoff asked Elizabeth the obvious and most important question: "Well. Do you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior."

Elizabeth, a non-practicing Roman Catholic who was disheartened by many things she experienced in the religion, said, "I don't know."

Pastor Geoff shared the law and the gospel with her. And, with as much certainty one person can have about another person's salvation, Pastor Geoff believed the Lord had brought Elizabeth to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

While visible emotion, in and of itself, is not necessarily a reliable indicator of conversion; Elizabeth's demeanor, expression, and words certainly left us with the reasonable hope that God had performed a miracle in Elizabeth's life.

Is open-air preaching effective? Ask Elizabeth.

'Death Camps' in the United States: Is There One Near You?

Above is a photo of a group of gypsies, new arrivals at the Belzec death camp. The camp was located in occupied Poland and operated from March 17, 1942 to the end of June 1943. The city of Belzec served as the headquarters for the primary Jewish extermination effort in Poland. An estimated 430,000 and 500,000 Jews are believed to have been systematically slaughtered at Belzec, along with an unknown number of Poles.

The Belzec death camp was not located in obscure place--Lublin, which today is the largest city east of the Vistula River, in Poland. While there may have been little the non-combatant citizens of Belzec could do at the time to stop the carnage take place in their backyard, there were also likely those who simply buried their heads in the sand. It is well-documented that German citizens living near the death camps in their cities were in denial about what went on inside the barbed-wired and electrified fences.

This is a picture of one of the entrances to a "death camp" in Downey, CA, just a few miles away from Living Waters headquarters. The address is: 8635 Firestone Blvd., Ste. 100 Downey, CA 90241. An organization has brazenly compiled and publicized a list of 400 such "death camps." To be sure, there are many, many more than 400 'death camps' in the United states. And there is likely one near you.

The location on Firestone Boulevard, along with the other 399 locations listed, are listed by an organization called Abortion Clinics Online. Organizations like this one are no different than those who ran Operation Reinhardt in Poland, 70 years ago. The location on Firestone Boulevard is an abortuary--a 'death camp' for the unborn. And it is situated in a densely populated area, along one of the busiest streets in town.

Here are some reviews the Downey abortuary has received from their "clients."
"They scheduled my appointment at 4:20 and wasnt even seen till after 5 and there was hardly people even there. Not cool when your already scared about what your doing. I had to just sit and wait and have the whole thing play into my mind over and over. With something like this I really wish it would have been quick. The following week was quick which was better but the first day wasnt all that great. The Staff was ok."

"I like that everything was done fast didn't really had to wait that long and the people that work there are really nice people."

"[It] was a sad experience but was treated well and no pain whatsoever."

"This place is so organized and gets you in and out fast unlike a lot of other places that do abortions. Could've had a longer recovery time though."
My heart was both sickened and grief stricken to read the testimony of mothers who murdered their babies. Most commented with a tenor of writing akin to completing a survey for a restaurant they visited or the cable guy that came to their house. Matter of fact; cold; indifferent; unattached. Maybe what they wrote was not indicative of what was really going on in their heart and mind. One can only hope.

It's time for me to do more than comment and encourage. I've got to do something about the "death camp" just up the street from my office. Babies are not being gassed in the abortuary up the street, like the Jews in Belzec were 70 years ago; but they are being systematically murdered just the same. I've got to do something--something that will save the lives of the unborn and bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the doctors, nurses, receptionists, mothers, and fathers who co-conspire to murder innocents.

To Be Clear: Any action taken to stop abortion must follow the biblical mandate to love both our neighbors (Romans 13:10) and our enemies (Luke 6:27-28). Vigilantism is not supported anywhere in Scripture (Romans 12:19; Hebrews 10:30). In fact, Jesus rebuked Peter for trying to take the law in his own hands (Matthew 26:51-53). Any effort by the Christian to end the global holocaust of abortion must be accomplished in a manner keeping with the Word of God (1 John 5:2) and with conformity to the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29).

Stay tuned.

Please watch 180 and share it with others.

No, No, No Green Giant!

By Tony Miano

There was a time when the phrase "unprecedented move" would apply to the story that serves as the subject of this article. But we no longer live in such times. Moves, like the one recently made by the General Mills corporation are becoming all-too-commonplace.

General Mills has hopped on the Gay Marriage bandwagon. The company is opposed to the Minnesota Defense of Marriage Act, which, if voted into law, will add the following statement to the Minnesota State Constitution: "Only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Minnesota."

To General Mills I say, "No, No, No Green Giant!"

Boycotts: An Extra-Biblical Expression

Needless to say, like with so many other issues, Christians are divided on the appropriateness of boycotts. There are good, bad, and ugly arguments on both sides of the debate.

With no examples in the Bible of Christians boycotting non-Christian businesses, and with no mandates in the Bible commanding or forbidding the practice of boycotting; ultimately, the issue is one of conscience for each individual follower of Christ. On issues pertaining to conscience, however, God's Word is not silent. "So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin" (James 4:17).

I think we can agree that no two Christians' consciences are identical (Romans 14:1-9). While there is agreement among genuine followers of Christ when it comes to what most of us consider essential Christian doctrines and issues, there are vastly more matters of varying degrees of importance about which there is no consensus in the Christian community.

Christians choose different hills atop of which they are prepared to die (metaphorically speaking), especially when it comes to social issues and mores. Christians can and should "agree to disagree" when the Bible is silent--when the Bible neither commands nor condemns a particular activity. And Christians should not be so quick to question or denounce their Christian brethren if their brethren's consciences do not run identical to their own.

In the end, boycotts are neither biblical nor unbiblical. They are extra-biblical. And whenever participating in or critiquing that which is extra-biblical, it behooves Christians to be extra-careful--extra-careful in their involvement and extra-careful in their criticism.

Why Long-Term, Non-Specific Boycotts Rarely Work

Christians have engaged in a number of long-term, non-specific boycotts over the years. One of the most notable was/is the boycott against the Disney Company.

Some will argue the boycott has had a significant impact on the manner in which Disney conducts business. Others will argue that the boycott has had no lasting impact on the company. Yes, Disney has moved in the direction of going back to its roots of family-friendly films. While, on the other hand, Disney has not backed off from their pro-homosexual agenda. It is my opinion that the Disney boycott has had and will have little impact on the Disney Company. After all, Disney just keeps raising its theme park prices, and Christians keep paying them and going to the park.

Often times, long-term, non-specific boycotts fail to accomplish the desired goal because, frankly, the Christian community often lacks the perseverance and commitment to keep the boycott alive. In the end, Christians do what they care about, for as long as they care about it.

If a Christian says he is committed to prayer, but fails to pray; he does not care as much about prayer as he claims with his lips (Isaiah 29:13; Mark 7:6). The same is true when it comes to Bible study, corporate worship, service inside and outside the church, the abortion and gay marriage fights, and, of course, evangelism. We do what we care about.

Short-Term, Targeted Boycotts Tend To Be More Effective

Short-term, targeted boycotts tend to be more effective. A case in point is the boycott against "The Last Temptation of Christ," a blasphemous movie released in 1988. The boycott was specifically targeted against a particular movie. The boycott garnered a great deal of media attention at the time, because of the passion and widespread participation of the Christian community. And while the movie continues to be cherished by the secular Hollywood elite, it ranks as little more than a cartoon before a feature presentation when compared to movies like "The Passion of Christ" or the Narnia films.

Why General Mills and Not All the Other Companies Supporting Gay Marriage?

It's a good and legitimate question. If I am going to boycott one company for supporting gay marriage, abortion, or any other social issue that is inconsistent with my faith in Christ, then why don't I boycott all of them?

Frankly, there is simply not enough time or resources for any one organization or person to boycott every anti-Christian, anti-God movement or company.

Additionally, there is the issue/strategy of leverage in determining when and where is the most strategic time and place to call for a public boycott. General Mills is making a very public stand in favor of gay marriage. Now is the best time to make a stand against General Mills.

Living Waters is an Christian organization, which exists to inspire and equip Christian to fulfill the Great Commission. Living Waters will forever remain committed to fulfilling our stated vision. But, there are times, as with the systematic slaughter of the unborn, when we believe it is right and good to make our voices heard (and encourage other Christians to do the same). There are times when it is important for us to talk about issues--not at the expense of gospel preaching, but in keeping with our vision of bringing the gospel to the entire world.

Again, boycotts are ultimately an issue of conscience. Each person has to weigh why they are participating in one boycott or another, and whether or not in doing so they are acting consistent with their Christian worldview. Each person must determine in their own heart and mind where they will draw their line in the sand, on any given issue.

Calling For a Boycott of General Mills and/or Its Subsidiaries

With the above in mind, Living Waters is asking the Christian community to join us in a boycott of General Mills products. Living Waters will focus on the Green Giant vegetable brand. The boycott will run from the posting date of this article, until Labor Day 2012 (September 3).

If you do not use Green Giant products, or if you would prefer to choose another one of the many General Mills Brands, then simply click on this link to see a list of brands: Brands. You may also, if you choose, boycott all General Mills products.

If you would like to personally contact General Mills (and we encourage you to do so), and share with the corporation your thoughts regarding its support of gay marriage, CLICK HERE for all of the necessary contact information.

Address your correspondences to Kendall J. Powell (Chairman and CEO) and/or Ken Charles (V.P. of Diversity)

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: If you participate in this boycott, you do so as an individual Christian citizen and not as a representative of Living Waters. And if you do participate, then you should behave, in word and deed, as a Christian. Your words and your actions should mirror Scripture and the life of the Savior. You should act and correspond with General Mills (and any proponents of the gay marriage agenda) in such a way as to bring glory, honor, and praise to the Lord Jesus Christ. Do not sully His name with less than Christ-like behavior.

If you will join us in this boycott, please add your name, city, and state (or country) by leaving a comment on this post. Please do not include your address, phone number, email, or web address.

This Is Not About Winning or Losing

Sometimes pragmatic arguments are made for and against boycotts based on the likelihood of winning or losing the fight. But, sometimes it's enough to simply stand up and say, "No!" Sometimes risking personal exposure to scorn, ridicule, and other forms of persecution for daring to publicly say, "Enough!" makes the outcome of the debate or boycott of secondary importance to soothing one's conscience--a conscience that demands saying something, anything, to let the world know you will not conform to the will of vocal minorities or powerful majorities.

Standing up to be heard, standing up to be counted is, at times, enough. It's not always about winning and losing.

Additionally, and more importantly, there is more at stake than simply winning and losing a fight over gay marriage. Souls are at stake. And more important to us than the outcome of any social debate or boycott is where people will spend eternity. As with everything we do at Living Waters, loving God, loving people, and furthering the gospel of Jesus Christ is of first importance.

If we convince General Mills, or anyone else, to change their minds about gay marriage, but we do not share with them the law and the gospel, then our efforts will only have negative eternal consequences. If we only succeed in changing a person's morality, but we do nothing to be used by God to change the state of their soul, then we, as Christians, have utterly failed in our primary mission: to Love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; to love our neighbor as ourselves; and to go and make disciples by preaching the gospel to everyone.

So, with the above in mind.....

Please read the following closely. Your very soul may depend on it.

When you die (and we will all die someday), you will stand before God and give an account for your life--every decision made, every action taken, every idea thought, every word spoken. He will judge each of us according to the perfect moral standard of His Law.

Why the Jehovah's Witnesses Have No Hope

In this open-air, I used "The Four Requirements for Salvation," as delineated by the Watchtower Society, to show that the Jehovah's Witnesses have no real hope of salvation; nor can they offer hope to anyone else. The only hope for salvation is found in Jesus Christ, and Him alone.

Richard Dawkins and Dan Barker Have Done the Church a Favor

By Tony Miano

What Richard Dawkins and Dan Barker undoubtedly hope will be yet another frontal assault against religion, with Christianity in the center of their cross-hairs, will backfire on them. It will back-fire on them much the same way Richard Dawkins holding up Ray Comfort's "On the Origin of Species (special edition)" and "180" back-fired. In the end, their attempt to arrogantly rail against the before-mentioned Christian evangelism resources only served to increase interest in them.

Together, with the help of a few of their friends, Dawkins and Barker have initiated the Clergy Project.

In doing so, Dawkins, Barker, and their ilk have done Christianity a favor. And I would like to thank them for their efforts.

Before I continue, let me add that there is no sarcasm in my gratitude toward Dawkins and Barker. Again, I believe they have done Christianity a favor.

1 John 2:18-19 is helpful, here, to show us the service Dawkins and Barker have provided to the Church.
"Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us."
Anyone who has joined Dawkins' and Barker's "Apostates Anonymous" club were never Christians to begin with. As the apostle John made clear about the Gnostics of his day, so it is with any member of the "clergy" who turn their back on Christ. "They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us."

Richard Dawkins and Dan Barker, who foolishly deny the existence of God (Psalm 14:1-3), while actually knowing God exists (Romans 1:18), are being used by God to separate the weeds from the wheat (Matthew 13:24-30), to identify wolves in sheep's clothing (Matthew 7:15-16), and to reveal those who are apostate within the Body of Christ (Hebrews 6:4-6). The Body of Christ is always healthier when the weeds, wolves, and apostates are removed from her midst by God.

There is nothing the likes of Dawkins and Barker can do to turn genuine believers away from Jesus Christ (John 10:27-29; John 6:37-38; Romans 8:38-39). All they can do is draw the false converts away from the Body of Christ.

May the Lord God continue to remove false converts from His pulpits, for the purity of His Church! And thanks, Rich and Dan, for being used by God to make that happen.

If you are contemplating turning your back on Christ, and the efforts of folks like Dawkins and Barker are contributing to that leaning, please understand this. You must examine yourself and test yourself to see if you are even in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5). You may have never been a Christian to begin with. You may be a false convert.

That's right. If you are buying into the "Dawkins Delusion" of atheism, yet you profess to be a Christian, you were never a Christian to begin with. You may have walked like a Christian, talked like a Christian, prayed like a Christian, worshiped like a Christian, served like a Christian, and witnessed like a Christian, but you were likely never saved (Hebrews 6:4-6). You were likely never born again.

No one is born again and then "unborn" again.

If you have not yet turned as far away as members of the Dawkins and Barker "Apostate Club," there still may be hope for you. God may still allow you to repent and believe. He may save you yet.

Please read the following closely. Your very soul may depend on it.

When you die (and we will all die someday), you will stand before God and give an account for your life--every decision made, every action taken, every idea thought, every word spoken. He will judge each of us according to the perfect moral standard of His Law. Open-Air Messages from June 16, 2012

I was blessed this morning to be joined at the North Hollywood Metro Station, by David Carosa and Steven Masters (Granada Hills Community Church), Jason Hauser and Steve Gatdula (Grace Community Church and The Master's Seminary), Bill McCarty (transitioning into a new church), and Peter Garon (Peter and I worship together at Faith Community Church).

As in weeks past, my first open-air included a warning to the people within the sound of my voice to avoid talking to or taking literature from the members of the Watchtower Society (JW's). The subject of my sermon was "The Four Requirements for Salvation in the Watchtower Society." Using their own documents, I showed, by the Word of God, the JW's formula for salvation only leaves them without hope and condemned. Then I presented the gospel of God's amazing grace.

I hope to post a video of the above open-air, early in the week.

In the meantime, below are the audios for the last two open-airs I preached at the North Hollywood Metro Station.

Open-Air 2

I hope these audios are an encouragement to you.

Marks of a Possible False Convert

On my birthday, in 2009, I preached a sermon titled: The Marks of a Possible False Convert. While it encouraged some, it caused a little bit of an uproar among those who disagreed with the sermon's content--especially among a few open-air preachers who ascribe to and teach a number of heresies.

This sermon was brought to my mind this morning when I received an email from Carla. Carla is from Lima, Peru.
Hey OnTheBox: I'm 28 years old and I have been watching your show for a long time. I came to saving faith in Christ after watching a video of Tony preaching a sermon called "Marks of a Possible False Convert." Until that day I believed I was a Christian because I once prayed a prayer and asked Jesus into my heart. But after watching that video I realize that I was a false convert and a hypocrite that used God’s forgiveness as a license to sin. After hearing the law and the Gospel for the very first time, I realized I desperately needed Christ to save me. I repented of my sins and put my trust in Him alone. Since that day I have had a desire to see people come to know Christ. A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with a Grade III Anaplastic Astrocytoma (brain cancer). It’s inoperable due to the location. I have a couple of questions for you I hope you can answer.
I emailed Carla and thanked her for writing. I told her we would try to answer her questions on today's show.

I hope this message is an encouragement to you and that the Lord uses it in the lives of others like Carla. And join me in praying for Carla as she battles brain cancer.

Carrie Underwood Takes Back the Wheel

By Tony Miano
(This byline is added to correct confusion. Many of those commenting on this article think Ray Comfort wrote it. Ray is not responsible for the content of this post.)

On today's edition of On the Box, we talked about the following story by Wendy Geller of Yahoo Music:
The 29-year-old country superstar and former American Idol, who was raised Baptist, explained her position on the social debate in a recent interview with the Independent. "Above all, God wanted us to love others," she noted. "It's not up to me to judge anyone."

Underwood, who is married to hockey star and fellow Christian Mike Fisher, says she and her husband attend a gay-friendly nondenominational church. "As a married person myself, I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love," she said. "I can't imagine how that must feel."

"I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."

Underwood has been open about her faith throughout her career, and marked her first No. 1 hit with the religiously themed "Jesus Take The Wheel." Fisher's official sports website includes a testimony section in which he explains his personal relationship with Christ.

Underwood's declaration did not go unnoticed by the entertainment world--in fact, pop superstar Miley Cyrus tweeted on Monday a call for Underwood to appear in the NOH8 Campaign, a protest against gay discrimination which has attracted numerous celebrities.

"Would be wonderful to get that kinda support from country music!" Cyrus enthused, to which openly gay country singer Chely Wright replied, "That would be AWESOME!"

Underwood herself remained silent on Twitter regarding the matter, and has not released any further statement as of this posting. Her latest album, Blown Away, is currently No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart.
Sadly, it looks like Carrie Underwood, who professes to be a Christian, has taken back the wheel.

A genuine follower of Jesus Christ would not do the following:

"You love evil more than good, and lying more than speaking what is right. Selah" (Psalm 52:3).

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter" (Isaiah 5:20)!

"Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them" (Romans 1:32).

A genuine follower of Jesus Christ would agree with the Word of God:

"Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh" (Genesis 2:24).

"He answered, 'Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh"? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.'” (Matthew 19:4-6)?

"But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh" (Mark 1o:6-8).

"Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error" (Romans 1:24-27).

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God" (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh” (Ephesians 5:21).

"Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted" (1 Timothy 1:8-11).

"But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death" (Revelation 21:8).

Carrie Underwood, assuming she was quoted accurately, gives every indication she is a Christian in name only; for she calls evil (homosexuality) good, and she does not believe the Bible.

Carrie Underwood has taken the wheel from the Jesus of the Bible and has given it to a false Jesus she has created in her imagination--a Jesus who approves of homosexuality and perverted form of love that is nothing more than sinful lust. Underwood, like so many other professing Christians is committing idolatry of the mind; and no idolater will inherit the kingdom of Heaven (see 1 Corinthians 6:9).

Christians must stop dubbing stars ambassadors of Christ.

Over the years, Christians have shown a tendency to jump on the bandwagon of any actor, singer, beauty queen, musician, politician, business mogul, or athlete who refers to themselves as a "Christian." I believe Christians do this, in part, because they desperately want to show the world that Christianity is relevant to the masses and acceptable among society's elite.

Yet in doing so Christians, more often than not, latch themselves not to rising Christian stars on the world's stage, but falling false convert stars who need to repent and believe the gospel. No one is a Christian simply because they mention the name of Jesus in their acceptance speeches, song titles, political platforms, or post-game interviews. And more often than not, what comes out of the mouths of professing celebrity Christians reveals the true condition of their hearts.

Carrie Underwood may be a case in point.

While Underwood's rhetoric might be in keeping with segments of mainstream American Evangelicalism, it is not in keeping with biblical Christianity. And the "love" of which she speaks regarding homosexual behavior is not a God-honoring, Christ-loving, Bible-believing love. It is a sinful love that puts man's fleshly desires above the will and Word of God. It is a sinful love that puts the love for the creature over and above the love for the Creator (Romans 1:22-25).

My suggestion to Carrie Underwood is that she takes her hands off the wheel, repent, and believe the gospel. It is not enough for her to sing that Jesus takes the wheel of her life if her beliefs indicate she is driving the car in the wrong direction.

PS.

Since it now appears, with over 2,000 views in little more than an hour's time, some of Carrie Underwood's fans are weighing in, here's what I would say to Carrie if I could speak to her directly:

Carrie:

I don't know you, so I have no choice but to talk to you as if you were a stranger on the street.

I do not know your heart, so I am left with evaluating what you say. And what you have said about homosexual unions is not a position a Christian would or can take. For God's Word makes it clear that any and all homosexual behavior is sin in His eyes. It's a violation of His holy Law.

Carrie, when you die (and we will all die someday), you will stand before God and give an account for your life--every decision made, every action taken, every idea thought, every word spoken.

And Carrie, we also sin against God when we fashion a Jesus in our mind to suit ourselves--when we create a Jesus in our imagination with whom we are comfortable or society will readily accept. This is called idolatry. It is idolatrous to change the character of Jesus Christ and make Him into Someone who turns a blind eye to sin or even applauds sin. And that is what you've done by making statements in support of homosexual marriages, and then suggesting God would be in favor of it.

Carrie, when you stand before God, if He finds you guilty of breaking His Law, He will punish your sin. And the punishment God has ascribed for sin is eternity in Hell. He must do what is right, because He is holy, righteous, and just.

I don't want that for you. I don't want that for any homosexual. I don't want that for anyone.

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift. In addition to being holy, righteous, and just; God is also, loving, merciful, and kind.

2,000 years ago, as you were likely taught in your baptist church, God the Father sent His Son to earth in the person of Jesus Christ.

Carrie, what God commands of you is the same thing He commands of me and all people everywhere. He commands that we repent (turn from our sin and turn toward God); and, by faith alone, receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

Carrie, you may have heard this (or something similar) in the past, maybe even in church. But it is not enough to nod your head in agreement and then believe in a Jesus whose character is different than the one, true Jesus of the Bible.

Like everyone else, Carrie, you must come to Jesus Christ on His terms, not your own--on His terms, not in a way that is sociably acceptable to the masses.

Carrie, take to heart Jesus' own words:

"Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled? But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander" (Matthew 15:17-19).

Now, in light of what Jesus said, compare what you are saying about homosexual marriage. What is proceeding from your mouth reveals the true condition of your heart.

I would hope some of your fans who are posting here and, more importantly someone close to you would care enough about you to tell you the truth. And Carrie, if your church endorses homosexual marriage or the homosexual lifestyle as compatible with God's Word or a relationship with Jesus Christ, then I must encourage you to leave the church as soon as possible. For it is not one of Christ's churches.

Please, Carrie, repent of your sin and, by faith and by faith alone, receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, while He has given you time.

And let me encourage you to watch this important documentary. If you are a Christian, Carrie, you will want to do whatever you can to stop this modern-day holocaust.

Abortion: The Murder of Nascent People

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the Lutheran pastor who execution was ordered by Hitler in 1944, was as vehemently opposed to abortion as he was to Nazism. On page 175-76 of his work Ethics, Bonhoeffer wrote:

"Destruction of an embryo [an unborn baby less than 8-weeks old] in the mother's womb is a violation of the right to live which God has bestowed upon the nascent [developing] life. To raise the question whether we are here concerned already with a human being or not is merely to confuse the issue. The simple fact is that God certainly intended to create a human being and that this nascent human being has been deliberately deprived of his life. And that is nothing but murder."

Praying Code-3

"64 the handle. 64-Adam the assist. 211-now. 23645 Main St. Bank of America. 64 and 64-Adam, respond code-3."

"64 code-3 in 2, 64."

"64-Adam code-3 in 3, 64-Adam."

There's nothing like rolling code-3. There's not a roller coaster in existence that matches the adrenalin rush of heading to a priority call, with lights and siren activated.

And what about you? What do you think when you see a patrol car, fire truck, or ambulance in your rear view mirror, coming toward you at a very high rate of speed? Does your heart skip a beat? Come on. Admit it. You start to breathe a little heavier, and your pulse quickens.

But do you pray?

Do you pray for those officers who are rushing to a domestic violence call or a crime in progress? Do you pray, right then and there, for the firefighters and paramedics who are rushing to a medical emergency, fire, or traffic collision?

While you may not be able to roll code-3 like a first responder, you can certainly pray code-3. And that's exactly what I am challenging you to do.

Whenever you see first responders rolling code-3, please stop what your doing (if practical and safe) and pray. Or whenever you come across a scene in which first responders are present, stop what you are doing and pray.

Pray for their safe travel. Pray also for the safety of other motorists and pedestrians in their path.

Pray the Lord gives them wisdom, discernment, courage, and compassion beyond measure as they enter situations ranging from the mundane to the horrific.

Pray the Lord would use the critical incident to draw the first responders and the civilians involved to either a closer walk with Christ (if they are saved) or to contemplate their eternal destination as they are forced to face (or at least consider) their own mortality.

Pray there would be someone on-scene to proclaim the Law and the Gospel to them. Pray the person who heralds that message might be you.

Pray as the Holy Spirit leads.

In addition to praying, keep your car stocked with tracts and other resources so that if you stop at the scene (again, if it is practical and safe), you can minister to those who are present.

So, I hope you will join me in Praying Code-3 for the first responder community and those they serve during critical incidents.

And don't forget to join the Facebook Group!

I want to also encourage you to "like" the Below 100 Facebook page. It is a noble and important effort led by Ten-Four Ministries to bring the law enforcement line-of-duty deaths under 100 each year.

No Evangelism Team is Complete Without a 'Fran'

Fran is not an open-air preacher. She doesn't engage a lot of strangers in conversation. She won't set any records for distributing gospel tracts. In fact, she is so new to biblical evangelism, she is content remaining in the background when she joins her church's evangelism team on the streets.

But make no mistake. Fran is one of, if not the, most important person on her evangelism team. In fact, I will go as far as to say no evangelism team is complete without someone like Fran.

Fran prays.

That's what she's doing in the above picture. Fran is praying for the person atop the box heralding the gospel. She is praying for her team members who are distributing tracts. And she is praying for her team members engaged in one-to-one conversations.

Fran prays.

"You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many" (2 Corinthians 1:11).

"Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak" (Colossians 4:2-4).

"Brothers, pray for us" (1 Thessalonians 5:25).

"Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one" (2 Thessalonians 3:1-3).

Paul knew very well how important it was to have his Christian brethren praying for him as he engaged in harvest work--the work of evangelism.

Sadly, in today's street evangelism community, praying saints who may not be overt in their personal evangelism efforts are often relegated to a place of secondary importance on evangelism teams (if they are even considered part of the time, in the first place). How very foolish at times we evangelists are!

I thank God for faithful, precious saints like Fran--Christian brethren who not only see the importance of prayer, but also pray. They are the troops assigned to guard the flanks of the charging army. They are the operators of the lines of communication between the front lines and headquarters. They are the M.A.S.H. and U.S.O.--the nurses and comforters--for soldiers far from home. Praying saints are the interceding soul of an evangelism team, whether they join the team on the field of battle or remain in the camp.

No evangelism team is complete without a "Fran." And I am thankful to God and to Fran for showing me this important truth this last weekend, in Syracuse, New York.

Who are the "Frans" of your evangelism team? I'm going to start recruiting mine, today!

Jehovah's Witnesses are Antichrists - Are You?

The Jehovah's Witnesses frequent the North Hollywood Metro Station. It is one of their "fishing ponds." Each Saturday morning, I begin my open-airs by warning those in the area about the presence of these cultists. They are, by definition, antichrists.
