Words of Comfort: Reading the Bible Through a Year

I guess my Bible reveals that I believe in regularly opening its pages. I have been a Christian for more than 40 years and never once have I gone a day without reading the Scriptures. As a new Christian I thought that was normal for every believer. I was wrong. So for many years I have encouraged Christians to say, "No Bible, no breakfast; no read, no feed," so that they can stand on the wonderful promises of Psalm One. It is with this thought in mind that I would like you to join me in reading the Bible through in a year.

Follow me on Twitter @RayComfort and beginning on January 1st, you will receive a tweet each day giving you the chapters to read, with my personal "short thort." Something like this:

Bible in a Year (Gen. 1-3): A world that rejects "Let there be light" will be left in the dark as to its origins, its purpose, and destiny.

Will you join me?

Words of Comfort: Copyright ©

George Harrison was once sued because his song “My Sweet Lord” was similar to the Ronnie Mack song "He's So Fine.” There is a clear similarity:

I have often wondered about copyrights on car designs, and who it is that decides whether or not a new model looks like an existing make. Surely there are regulations that would stop a car maker from copying the shape of a Lamborghini or a Volkswagen Beetle. Speaking of copyright. Have you ever noticed how billions of people have different faces, and yet all God has to work with is a nose, a mouth, and a couple of eyes. And some people ask why we worship Him.

Words of Comfort: Psalm 40

"I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord" (Psalm 40:1-3). Here is the testimony of the Christian. He heard my cry and brought me out of the pit and miry clay of sin. Its power held us captive until we were rescued by the grace of God. We are no longer sinking into death, but our feet have been planted upon the sure foundation of the Rock of Ages. God has established our goings. He has set before us a path of righteousness with a new song of praise on our lips. May many see the reality of that walk, hear the truth of the gospel and fear God enough to repent and trust in Jesus.

Words of Comfort: Psalm 34

Psalm 34 begins with “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

I didn’t think much about God before I was born again. But from the moment of conversion His praise has continually been in my mouth. I think about Him when I hear the birds singing His praises, when I see the sun shine in His strength, or even when I look at my hands. My hands are the work of His hands. So the next time someone demands a miracle from God, tell them that they are surrounded by miracles, but they will be blind to them until they are born again.

Words of Comfort: The Redcoats (part 2)

The Internet has given instant access to the darkest of sins. Hard core pornography is seconds away from the eyes of any youth who can type in the word “sex.” He can have instant delirious sinful pleasures at the click of a button. But it comes at a price. Those who give themselves to darkness will automatically cower away from and hate the light, and when any human being hardens his God-given conscience, he will find that he can also hate without any sense of guilt.

Thanks to smooth-talking British redcoats like Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitches, we now have a generation of God-haters who are ready to be used by the enemy. They are dead to morality because they think that they are the offspring of apes, there’s no God, and there’s no ultimate right or wrong. Once again a generation has been brainwashed by propaganda, as so clearly happened in Germany just 70 years ago.

So how do we reach hardened sinners who are ripe for the enemy’s agenda? We do it by entering their world of Social Media. We do it by creating short fast-moving Internet movies that reach millions with the gospel—movies such as “Genius” that can be freely viewed at GeniusTheMovie.com or “180” at 180Movie.com. We want to convince Christians to view them, “like” them, comment on them, and push them through Facebook and Twitter. This lifts the YouTube ratings, and so more people get to hear the gospel that brings sinners out of the darkness into the glorious light.

In the past, missionaries have traveled to far countries with the message of the gospel -- with great hardship and often with the loss of life. In contrast, we can reach millions instantly from the comfort of our homes by merely hitting the “send” button on our computers, or with iPads, or phones. With the help of God we stop the new wave of persecution because the gospel makes enemies into friends. May God stir us to do this and to do it quickly.

Words of Comfort: The Redcoats (part 1)

It’s strange that more people don’t ask themselves why Jews are hated. When I researched for my book, Hitler, God, and the Bible I wept my way through the Holocaust. I saw pictures that left me in horror at the cruelty of mankind…pictures so horrific in nature I don’t want to even describe them. My own ancestors fled Europe to England and then to New Zealand to escape persecution. It’s seems to be part of life. Dogs bark, cats meow, and Jews are persecuted. That’s the way it is.

I found myself recently sharing the gospel with 40 atheists. They had been protesting outside an event at which I was speaking. It was hot, so I invited them into the air conditioning and for free pizza and a chat. We had a great time, but one thing that kept coming up was the argument that I couldn’t be a Jew and a Christian. Even when I explained that I’m a Christian by religion and a Jew by birth, they couldn’t reconcile the two. They didn’t mix. Yet Christianity was founded by and on a Jew in the land of the Jews. One other thing that they have in common is that they have both been persecuted down through the ages.

I believe that the reason both are hated is that they worship the true God, and He demands morality. Jews and Christians remind the world of that fact, and that isn’t a pleasant thought for guilty sinners. However, that spark of thought in the mind of the world is fanned by the evil principalities and powers that govern this age. We don’t wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the god of this world and those spiritual entities that hate the true God. There is a new wave of persecution on the rise against both the Jew and the Christian, and there‘s a good reason for it.

Words of Comfort: Dog's eye

If you have a dog, look closely into his eyes, say a few words like “cat,” or “biscuit,” and watch him process the information. Then ask yourself how God could make his eyes, his brain, and give him the ability to understand English words. Then think of the billions of canine brains and eyes that have made since Adam. Consider the 1.4 different kinds of creatures like fish, birds, animals, and insects, each with eyes and brains, with their own thoughts and instincts on how to gather food, to bred, where to sleep, and find shelter, etc. Then meditate on how unspeakably great God must be to create all these things. May you and I then shudder as we consider how a blaspheming and sin-loving world has to face Him on Judgment Day. May we fear for them and say with the Apostle Paul, “Wherefore knowing the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.”

Words of Comfort: "Hey beautiful!"

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it...That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish" (Ephesians 5:25-27). I have been known to call out to my wife (as she worked with our staff) "Hey beautiful!" I would do this just to see who would look up from their work. It was always amusing to see how many men responded. If you are in Christ, you are more than beautiful. Much more. No spot. No wrinkle, and no blemish. The righteousness of Christ has made you "glorious." So look up and rejoice.

Words of Comfort: Priestly Pedophilia and More

As a Christian, I am continually trying to distance myself from religious hypocrisy, the televangelist’s greed, the priestly pedophilia, and the dead tradition of what is commonly called “religion.” Marx rightly called it the “opiate of the masses.”

The difference between someone who is born again and a religious person, it that those who are religious think that they can earn salvation. They believe that they will get to Heaven by doing something. They think that they have to pray, do good works, face a certain way when they pray, eat certain foods, lie on beds of nails, or sit on hard and painful pews.

But the good news of the gospel is that we need not suffer the pain of religion any longer. The suffering was done 2,000 years ago on a cruel cross, so that we could have eternal life as a free gift from a merciful God. We can’t buy salvation. It is completely free, thanks to the amazing grace of Almighty God.

Many times I hear skeptics blame Christians for the persecution of Galileo. But those who accuse us of that, need to study history. It was religious people who arrested Galileo for what they perceived as heresy.

I have spoken to hundreds of religious Roman Catholics, and when I asked them, “Are you a Christian?” most say, “No. I’m a Roman Catholic.” They know the difference, and there is a difference.

Most Roman Catholics aren’t ashamed to say that they love their tradition more than the Bible. They are convinced that the word of the pope supersedes that of Holy Scripture. Most also say that they don’t need to be born again because they were baptized into the Roman church, even though Jesus said that if we are not born again, we will not enter Heaven.

Galileo maintained that the Earth circled the sun. As a professor of astronomy at the University of Pisa, he was required to teach the accepted theory of his time--that the sun and all the planets revolved around the Earth. But he was exposed to what was then, a new theory, proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus--that the Earth and all the other planets revolved around the sun. Galileo’s observations with his new telescope convinced him of the truth of Copernicus’s sun-centered or helio-centric theory.

Galileo’s support for the helio-centric theory got him into trouble with the Roman Catholic Church. In 1633, during the Inquisition, he was convicted of heresy and ordered to recant his support of Copernicus. The Roman Catholic Church sentenced him to life imprisonment, but his advanced age allowed him to serve the term under house arrest at his villa outside of Florence, Italy.

It is therefore unfair to blame Christians for his imprisonment. Not only were we not around 450 years ago, but history clearly attests to the fact that it was the Roman church that persecuted Galileo.

So remember this the next time someone accuses you of being anti-science because you are part of a group that persecuted Galileo. But don’t get caught up in an argument about the Catholic church. Rather, swing the conversation to the importance of salvation, by asking if he thinks he is a good person. Then take him through the Ten Commandments to show him that he, like the rest of us, is a sinner who desperately needs a Savior to escape the damnation of a very real Hell. Then preach Christ crucified for the sin of the world, and the absolute necessity of the new birth.

Any man-made religion is about as helpful as a parachute that’s full of holes. The only one who can save us from the great drop into eternity, is the Savior. That’s why Scripture commands us to “put on the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Encouraging “180” testimony!

(Email from Alexandra) "Dear 180 Team, the first time I watched this DVD I was a senior in high school. Before I had watched this video, not only was I non-believer of the Christian faith, but I had rather secular views regarding abortion. During your documentary, I was brought to tears. It hit me in a place so deep inside that I can only compare it to a child realizing what she had done was wrong, and was now caught. I felt condemned by own views on something that I myself had "sanctioned" in my own "backyard" (my country). I would like to thank you for making this video because it opened up my heart to the reality of abortion."

The explorers who found Titanic claim evidence for Noah’s flood

(CHRISTIAN POST) Ocean explorer Robert Ballard, who is responsible for the discovery of the Titanic shipwreck, says he may have discovered evidence of the Great Flood described in the Book of Genesis. Ballard is now on a mission to find evidence that the "mother of all floods" actually occurred, he told Christiane Amanpour of ABC News. "We went in there to look for the flood," he told ABC News. "Not just a slow moving, advancing rise of sea level, but a really big flood that then stayed... The land that went under stayed under."

It started with two Columbia University marine geologists who proposed a theory that there was a massive flood caused by climate shifts in the middle east which caused flooding in over 60,000 square miles in less than a year.

After deciding to explore this theory themselves, Ballard's team found an ancient shoreline 400 feet below the surface, which suggests a flood catastrophe did occur there. After carbon dating shells from the shoreline, Ballard estimated the event occurred about 5,000 BC – around the time some believe the flood described in Genesis occurred.

Ballard and his team plan to return to Turkey in the summer of 2013.

deBunked: All Those Creatures Couldn't Have Fit on Noah's Ark

Points to Ponder About the Flood and Noah’s Ark (from the Evidence Bible)

Second Peter 3:3–8 tells us that people who scoff at the Bible are "willingly ignorant" of the Creation and the Flood. In order to understand science and the Bible, we must not be ignorant of those two great events in Earth’s history.

1. Over 500 Flood legends from all parts of the world have been found. Most have similarities to the Genesis account.

2. Noah’s ark was built only to float, not to ail anywhere. Many ark scholars believe that the ark was a "barge" shape, not a pointed "boat" shape. This would greatly increase the cargo capacity. Scoffers have pointed out that the largest sailing ships were less than 300 feet because of the problem of twisting and flexing the boat. These ships had giant masts and sails to catch the wind. Noah’s ark needed neither of those and therefore had far less torsional stress.

3. Even using the small 18-inch cubit (my height is 6'1" and I have a 21- nch cubit), the ark was large enough to hold all the required animals, people, and food with room to spare.

4. The length-to-width ratio of 6 to 1 is what shipbuilders today often use. This is the best ratio for stability in stormy weather.

5. The ark may have had a "moon-pool" in the center. The larger ships would have a hole in the center of the bottom of the boat with walls extending up into the ship. There are several reasons for this feature: a) It allowed water to go up into the hole as the ship crested waves. This would be needed to relieve strain on longer ships. b) The rising and lowering water acted as a piston to ump fresh air in and out of the ship. This would prevent the buildup of dangerous gasses from all the animals on board. c) The hole was a great place to dump waste into the ocean without going outside.

6. The ark may have had large drogue (anchor) stones suspended over the sides to keep it more stable in rough weather. Many of these tones have been ound in the region where the ark landed.

7. Noah lived for 950 years. Many Bible scholars believe the pre-Flood people were much larger than modern man. Skeletons over 11 feet tall have been found. If Noah were taller, his cubit (elbow to fingertip) would have been much larger also. This would make the ark larger by the same ratio.

8. God told Noah to bring two of each kind (seven of some), not of each species or variety. Noah had only two of the dog kind, which would include the wolves, coyotes, foxes, mutts, etc. The "kind" grouping is probably closer to our modern family division in taxonomy, and would greatly reduce the number of animals on the ark. Animals have diversified into many varieties in the last 4,400 years since the Flood. This diversification is not anything similar to great claims that the evolutionists teach.

9. Noah did not have to get the animals. God brought them to him (Genesis 6:20, "shall come to thee").

10. Only land- welling, air-breathing animals had to be included on the ark ("in which is the breath of life," Genesis 7:15,22).

11. Many animals sleep, hibernate, or become very inactive during bad weather.

12. All animals (and people) were vegetarian before and during the Flood according to Genesis 1:20–30 with Genesis 9:3.

13. The pre-Flood people were probably much smarter and more advanced than people today. The longer life spans, Adam’s direct contact with God, and the fact that they could glean the wisdom of many generations that were still alive would greatly expand their knowledge base.

14. The Bible says that the highest mountains were covered by 15 cubits [20 feet] of water (Genesis 7:20). This is half the height of the ark. The ark was safe from scraping bottom at all times.

15. The large mountains, as we have them (today, did not exist until after the Flood when "the mountains arose and the valleys sank down" (Psalm 104:5–9; Genesis 8:3–8).

16. There is enough water in the oceans right now to cover the earth 8,000 feet deep if the surface of the earth were smooth.

17. Many claim to have seen the ark in recent times in the area in which the Bible says it landed. There are two primary schools of thought about the actual site of the ark. Much energy and time have been expended to prove both views. Some believe the ark is on Mt. Ararat, covered by snow (CBS showed a one-hour special in 1993 about this site). Others believe the ark is seventeen miles south of Mt. Ararat in a valley called "the valley of eight" (eight souls on the ark). The Bible says the ark landed in the "mountains" of Ararat, not necessarily on the mountain itself.

18. The continents were not separated until 100–300 years after the Flood (Genesis 10:25). The people and animals had time to migrate anywhere on earth by then.

19. The top 3,000 feet of Mt. Everest (26,000 –29,000 feet) is made up of sedimentary rock packed with seashells and other oceandwelling animals.

20. Sedimentary rock is found all over the world. Sedimentary rock is formed in water.

21. Petrified clams in the closed position (found all over the world) testify to their rapid burial while they were still alive, even on top of Mount Everest.

22. Bent rock layers, fossil graveyards, and polystrata fossils are best explained by a Flood.

23. People choose to not believe in the Flood because it speaks of the judgment of God on sin (2 Peter 3:3–8). (24:38,39 continued)

Words of Comfort: What Atheists Avoid, like the Plague

Atheists are afraid of the word “faith.” It cuts a little close to the “accountability” bone, so they avoid it like the plague. But every now and then, someone let’s it slip.

Take for instance the age of fossils. When I watched a documentary on the discovery of “Ardi”--the famous fossil that was touted as a missing link, I was amazed that the discoverers didn’t date the bones at 4.4 million years old. They instead dated the soil in which they were found. My immediate thought was, "How do we know that Ardi’s age was the same as what they perceive as the soil’s age, and how do we know that the dating system is accurate?"

Let’s say I died next week and I’m buried in soil that geologists say is 2.6 million years old. One hundred thousand years pass and new geologists dig up my bones. They want to know how old my bones are, but instead of testing them, they test the compacted now rock strata in which I was buried, and conclude that I’m 2.6 million years old.

Then someone else asked, "How do we know Ardi is 4.4 million years old? I tried looking up the details regarding Ardi's age of 4.4 million years and all I could find was that they looked at the volcanic layer above and below. This makes me skeptical because I know that in dating Lucy, they had to drive miles away from the site to even find anything they could measure, dating wise. Was the dating done at the site where Ardi was found? If not, or if we don't know, are we just taking their word for it?"

Thanks to an honest Atheist, the cat came out of the bag. He answered, "Strictly speaking, you'd be taking geologists' word for it." And therein he revealed the blind unquestioning faith of the average believer in evolution.

They believe anything any scientists says about evolution. They believe anything as long as it’s not in the Bible, and that is a tragedy beyond words. But more than that. As far as they are concerned, anyone who has faith is somehow anti-science.

But did you know that every scientific experiment is done “in faith.” If a scientist had the results in front of him where he could see them, why would he experiment? He conducts a test because he doesn’t yet see the results.

Edison kept experimenting with the light bulb over and over because he believed he would eventually see the light. It was because of his faith that he got a result. He believed without seeing, until the light gave him that for which he was looking.

Although Edison wasn’t a believer in God, it was God who gave him light. Without his God-given, wonderfully inventive brain, we would probably still be in darkness.

And God has also given light to every man—through this wonderful creation, through the undeniable voice of the conscience, and through plain old common sense.

When the Bible speaks of “faith” in God, that is not a reference to an intellectual acknowledgment that He exists (we all know that). It’s speaking of an implicit trust in His person and His promises. So if you know God, go out an share the gospel with someone today, while you still have time. And if you don’t know Him, today could be your last day on this fair earth, so think about your sins, then think about the Savior and what He did for you.

New Genius Promo!

"What is the year 2012 Mayan prophecy?"

From GotQuestions.org: The ancient Mayans, based on star charting, prophesied that December 21, 2012, would be the end of the world (or at least the date of some type of universal catastrophe). Meso-American star charting started around 680 B.C. in the Olmec civilization, who recorded astrological patterns and eventually shared this information with the Mayans. The Mayans had a long history of tracking the winter solstice (probably for planting crops) and creating calendars (at least 17 that we know of). At some point, they developed the belief that the sun is a god and that the Milky Way, which they called the “Sacred Tree,” was a gateway to the afterlife. After learning from the Olmecs, the Mayans kept records of the stars’ patterns of movement for the next 200-300 years.

The Mayans developed their own calendar (The Long Count) ca. 355 B.C. They were able to use their observations and mathematical prowess to calculate the future movements of stars across the sky. The result was that the Mayans discovered the effect of the earth’s wobbling as it spins on its axis. This wobbling rotation causes the stars’ movements to drift gradually in the sky (an effect called “precession”) in a 5,125-year cycle. The Mayans also discovered that once every cycle the dark band at the center of the Milky Way (called the “Galactic Equator”) intersects the Elliptical (the plane of the sun’s movement across the sky).

During the year of the intersection, the sun reaches its solstice (a brief moment when the sun’s position in the sky is at its greatest angular distance on the other side of the equatorial plane from the observer) on December 21 for the Northern Hemisphere and June 21 for the Southern Hemisphere. At that time, the solstice occurs at the same moment of the conjunction of the Galactic Equator with the Milky Way. The year this occurs (in relation to our Gregorian calendar) is A.D. 2012, and happened last on August 11, 3114 B.C. With Mayan mythology teaching that the sun is a god and the Milky Way is the gateway to life and death, the Mayans concluded that this intersection in the past must have been the moment of creation. Mayan hieroglyphs seem to indicate that they believed the next intersection (in 2012) would be some sort of end and a new beginning of a cycle.

All the so-called “Mayan prophecies of 2012” are nothing more than wildly speculative extrapolations, based on the yet-uncertain interpretations by scholars of Mayan hieroglyphs. The truth is that, apart from the astrological convergence, there is little indication that the Mayans prophesied anything specific regarding the events in their distant future. The Mayans were not prophets; they were not even able to predict their own cultural extinction. They were great mathematicians and accomplished sky watchers, but they were also a brutally violent tribal people with a primitive understanding of natural phenomena, subscribing to archaic beliefs and the barbaric practices of blood-letting and human sacrifice. (They believed, for example, that the blood of human sacrifices powered the sun and gave it life.)

There is absolutely nothing in the Bible that would present December 21, 2012, as the end of the world. While that date is no less valid for an end-times event than any other future date, the Bible nowhere presents the astronomical phenomena the Mayans pointed to as a sign of the end times. It would seem inconsistent of God to allow the Mayans to discover such an amazing truth while keeping the many Old Testament prophets ignorant of the timing of the events. In summary, there is absolutely no biblical evidence that the 2012 Mayan prophecy / prediction of doomsday is in any sense valid or probable.

Accepting the Mayan 2012 prophecy requires acceptance of the following theories: our sun is a god; the sun is powered by the blood of human sacrifice; the creation moment occurred at 3114 B.C. (despite all evidence that it happened much earlier); and the visual alignment of stars has some significance for everyday human life. Like every other false religion, the Mayan religion sought to elevate the creation instead of the Creator Himself. The Bible tells us about such false worshipers: “They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator” (Romans 1:25), and “since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). To accept the Mayan 2012 prophecy also denies the clear biblical teaching about the end of the world. Jesus told us, “Of that day and hour no one knows, no, not the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father” (Mark 13:32).

Words of Comfort: Genius Takes Off

The new John Lennon movie, released to coincide with the 32nd anniversary of John Lennon's tragic December 8th death, has received more than 100,000 views in just four days. The movie's producer, Ray Comfort, said, "This is exceptional because this isn't a two-minute clip of grandma's hair catching on fire. It's a 34-minute commitment, but it's so fascinating and fast-moving viewers can't look away. This generation doesn't go to the conventional sources for news and information. They are engrossed in their own world of Social Media--texting, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc., and if we want to reach them with the message of everlasting life we have to enter their world. That's what we have done with this movie. 'Genius' is reaching a culture with the gospel through an effective medium; using a fascinating subject--the Beatles, who have crossed generations, selling more than 2.3 billion albums."

Comfort said that he wants to convince Christians that the movie has incredible potential to reach a Hell-bound world, and he wants them to view it, "like" it, comment on it, and push it through Facebook and Twitter. He maintains that this lifts the YouTube ratings, and so more people get to hear the gospel. "Genius" has been commended by many national Christian leaders, including John Piper, who so appreciated its potential to reach the lost, he tweeted it four times in four days.

The Los Angeles-based producer added, "In the past, missionaries have traveled to far countries with the message of the gospel -- with great hardship and often with the loss of life. In contrast, we can reach millions instantly from the comfort of our homes by merely hitting the 'send' button on our computers, or with iPads, or phones. Romans chapter 10:15 asks, 'How shall they preach unless they are sent?' In this case 'Genius' can be the preacher and it can be 'sent' all over the world through this amazing medium."

The movie was produced as a companion to a new book by Comfort, called, The Beatles, God, and the Bible (published by World Net Daily) and can be freely viewed on GeniusTheMovie.com

Genius testimonies are coming in!

(Email) “My names Andy . . . and I’m 15 and became a true Christian just the beginning of this year. Me and all my friends are born into Christian families but didn't actually know Christ as our savoir but [as] that guy from the Bible that did those things. I thank you guys so much for Genius. The day Genius came out i watched it; thought [it] was an amazing sequel to 180. The same day my friend Johnny (Age13) told me he found an awesome video he wanted to show me. We decided to get together with our friend Danny (age16) who has fallen from God Dramatically. Now for the first time in their lives, Johnny and Danny actually seem interested in Christ and i think they are! Johnny wanted to show Danny Genius and wants to continue sharing it. I plan to buy 53 copies of it (or how much $80 will get me) and together spread the gospel and the Movie and hand out tracts i recently bought from you guys with him. I ask for you to pray for us to spread the word correctly and truthfully and to grow a closer relationship with Christ.”

(Email from Pastor Simon Breaker) “We played this in our church today and 8 people came to repentance great job! We will be looking to order some DVD's in the new year!”

A few fun, family-oriented Christmas outreach ideas!

1) Christmas Caroling—sing & open-air or give a tract

You can download a Christmas Carol song sheet on LivingWaters.com – click the “Resource” tab on the main menu, and then “Free Downloads”

The Duggars bring cookies to local police/fire stations.

2) Give the gospel as a gift! Genius is just about out. Makes a FANTASTIC Christmas gift!

3) Get the kids involved!

(Email from Grace) “Hi there! We watch On The Box almost every day and want to thank you all for your ministry! Just this past week the Lord gave my family the opportunity (and boldness) to pass out several hundred tracts at a Christmas event in our hometown. The giant money and Santa millions were a HUGE hit!! Several people asked for more than one so that they could take them home to share with their families . . . At the end of the night, after giving away nearly 100 tracts on his own, [Abel – age 7] said "this was really fun, I think I'd like to do it every day!”

A new episode of WOTM, Season 4 debuts tonight on TBN! (Vienna)

Episode description: Austria's capitol is Vienna, a city synonymous with romance and beautiful music. Up until 1938, Vienna was a music-capital of the world, playing host to a string of noted composers such as Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler and, of course, Johann Strauss. Like many other cities in Europe, it's also a stronghold for atheism and evolution. Join "E.Z." as he uses September 11th as an open air springboard, meet an atheist who thinks he's a primate and believes in God, and join Ray as he has a knife in his back while he asks locals the revealing "three minutes to live" question.

Words of Comfort: Why the Sun Doesn’t Exist

A group known as “a/sunists” produced a manifesto explaining why they believe that the sun doesn’t exist:

Firstly. An entire desert tribe of men, women, and children was once killed by the sun. Therefore the sun doesn’t exist.

Second. Intelligent scientists have searched the night sky for the sun, and found no evidence for its existence.

Third. They also entered a pitch-black room and studied a book about the sun. Again, they found no empirical evidence.

Fourth. Beliefs were confirmed by interviewing members of the Braille Institute.

Lastly. The millions who testified that they have seen a brilliant ball of fire in the sky are unscientific dimwitted liars. The a/sunists continue to hold their meetings in a dark room and tell each other that it is intelligent to believe that the sun doesn’t exist.

By professing the blindness of atheism, atheists deny the God-given light that He has given to every sane human being.

There are some cultures that will show so much contempt for a family member that has wronged them, they actually deny his existence. They refuse to acknowledge that he existed as a son. They don’t want to see him, hear from him, or talk to him. That’s what the professing atheist does with God, and his or her reason for doing so is moral. It’s not intellectual. If it was an intellectual issue there wouldn’t be any argument. But through their moral conscience atheists know that God requires an account for every action and every word (including our thought life); they can’t stand that thought, and so they deny His existence.

However, we don’t have to prove that God exists to anyone. This is because every sane person intuitively knows that He exists. All of us have a God-given conscience. The Bible tells us that this is the “work of the law written on their hearts.” Just as every sane human being knows that it’s wrong to lie, steal, kill, and commit adultery, he knows that God should be first in his life.

The professing atheist not only has the testimony of his impartial conscience, but he also has the testimony of creation. It “declares” the glory of God, and the person who denies the voice of conscience and the voice of creation is without excuse. If death seizes upon him and he is still in his sins, he will face the wrath of a holy Creator, whether he believes in Him or not.

This is is why I don’t spend too much time trying to convince anyone that there is a God. To do so is to waste time and energy. Sinners don’t need convincing that God exists; they need convincing that sin exists and that they are in terrible danger.

The only biblical way to do this is to go through the moral Law and explain that God is offended by the sins of lying, stealing and blasphemy, and that He considers lust to be adultery and hatred to be murder. It is the revelation that God is holy and just and sees our thought-life that convinces us that we are in danger of eternal damnation. That’s what sent me to the Cross for mercy, and that’s what sinners need to hear. So never be discouraged from preaching the Gospel, and don’t get sidetracked by the rabbit trails of issues that don’t really matter.

What Hollywood Believes – George Lucas

HollywoodandGod.com

In discussing the religious overtones of Star Wars, George Lucas explained, “I put the Force into the movie in order to try to awaken a certain kind of spirituality in young people—more a belief in God than a belief in any particular religious system. I wanted to make it so that young people would begin to ask questions about the mystery. Not having enough interest in the mysteries of life to ask the question, ‘Is there a God or is there not a God?’ —that is for me the worst thing that can happen. I think you should have an opinion about that. Or you should be saying, ‘I’m looking. I’m very curious about this, and I am going to continue to look until I can find an answer, and if I can’t find an answer, then I’ll die trying.’ I think it’s important to have a belief system and to have faith.”

When his interviewer asked, “Do you have an opinion, or are you looking?” Lucas replied, “I think there is a God. No question. What that God is or what we know about that God, I’m not sure.”

George Lucas said that he had “more a belief in God than a belief in any particular religious system.” This is a phrase that you will see is often repeated in this book by celebrities. They have the good sense to separate “God” from the cold religious system that so often portrays itself as the divine representative.

The importance of kindness

“When I was a teenage new Christian, I had been witnessing to some rather rough kids at school and invited them to come to my church's Easter pageant where they would see a dramatization of the crucifixion and resurrection. I saved seats for them right up front... but they never came. The next day at school I asked them why. They had been met at the door of the church by a woman who told them, "We don't want your kind here." So they turned around and left. I've never forgotten it. Being unfriendly can lead to someone's heart being further hardened against Christ.” – Anna Jackson

Words of Comfort: Famous Atheists- Billy Joel

Billy Joel is a talented pianist, singer-songwriter, and a brilliant composer. His first hit was “Piano Man,” which hit the charts way back in 1973.

Newmax said of him, “He toldBillboard magazine in 1994, ‘I still feel very much like an atheist in the religious aspects of things,’ but added, ‘There are spiritual planes I'm aware of that I don't know anything about and that I can't explain.’”[1]

Billy once said, “As an atheist you have to rationalize things. You decide first of all that you will not ask Daddy -- meaning God in all of his imagined forms -- for a helping hand when you're in a jam. Then you have to try and make some sort of sense out of your problems. And if you try and find you can't, you have no choice but to be good and scared -- but that's okay! When animals are afraid, they don't pray, and we're just a higher order of primate. Mark Twain, a great atheist, said it best in The Mysterious Stranger, when he stated in not so many words, ‘Who are we to create a heaven and hell for ourselves, excluding animals and plants in the bargain, just because we have the power to rationalize?’"[2]

If Billy likes to rationalize things, I would like him to tell me what he would think of my intellectual capacity if I thought that he didn’t compose “Piano Man;” if I believed that it didn’t have a composer. It just happened. It was a melodic accident. Such a thought is ludicrous. Every song has a composer, every book has an author, every car has a maker, every painting has a painter, and every building has a builder. So it isn’t irrational to take this simple logic a little further and say that Nature must have had a Maker. It would be irrational to believe that it made itself. It’s more than irrational; it’s scientifically impossible. For Nature to make itself, it would have had to be pre-existent before it made itself.

If I had the honor of having lunch with Billy, I would ask him two questions. The first isn’t that important, but I would like to know the answer. How does he know that animals don’t pray? Does he have some sort of unique access to animal thought-life? The second would be to correct a misunderstanding than is common in atheist circles. Why would he believe that Mark Twain was a great atheist, when he clearly did believe in the existence of God (something we will look at in a future column)?

NOTES:

Friday, December 7, 2012

Today’s Show Notes: Friday, 7th December 2012.

(Email from Kay) “Is inviting people to church sharing the gospel? My pastor seems to think that if congregants invite people to church to hear the gospel, that's all they are required to do. I feel like this isn't sharing the gospel, it's kind of giving them a pass. They are not fans of the "confrontational gospel" and said tracts are a waste of time because most people throw them out."

We definitely want to invite people to church, but there are a lot of reasons why that shouldn’t be the main aim:
·       Jesus told us to preach the gospel (not invite people to church to hear it)
·       God’s example: you don’t see believers inviting people to church in Acts (it sure did happen though), but you do see them preaching the gospel constantly—where the main focus was
·       You have to assume the pastor will give a solid and clear gospel presentation in that service (which most pastors don’t do weekly—the vast majority of people who visit a church for the first time statistically will never return and thus if you don’t witness to them might never hear the gospel otherwise)
·       Most people simply won’t go to church—you have to bring the message to them
·       Most lost people have no desire to go to church, but if they get saved after hearing the gospel they will naturally want to attend
·       You have to hope the person doesn’t die before Sunday

Why not witness to them and then invite them to church? Marry the best of both worlds.

She mentioned that her pastor feels “tracts are a waste of time” because most people throw them out.
·       I’ve been told numerous times that people keep them in their wallet—get a good, striking tract and people will want to hold onto it and pass it along (IQ Tests, money tracts, etc.)

Our theology directs our methodology. Our theology demands the urgency to win the lost and common sense dictates the vast majority will never come to church. We have to follow Jesus & the apostles example and bring the gospel outside the church.

You’re left with 2 evaluation questions:

1. Do gospel tracts effectively reach people?
  • Joey Hancock of the American Tract Society said, "Fifty-three percent of all who come to Christ worldwide come through the use of printed gospel literature."
  • Hudson Taylor the great missionary was saved through a tract, so was Moishe Rosen, founder of Jews for Jesus, Thomas Johannes Back, who served as General Director and spiritual leader over 800 missions workers who served around the word, and so many more.
  • After George Whitefield read one called “The Life of God in the Soul of a Man,” he said, “God showed me I must be born again or be damned.” He went on to pray, “Lord, if I am not a Christian, or if I am not a real one, for Jesus Christ’s sake show me what Christianity is, that I may not be damned at last!” Then his journal tells us “from that moment . . . did I know that I must become a new creature.”
  • A Christian book relates the true story of a diver who saw a piece of paper clutched in the shell of an oyster. The man grabbed it, found that it was a gospel tract and said, “I can’t hold out any longer. His mercy is so great that He has caused His Word to follow me even to the bottom of the ocean.” God used a tract to save the man.

2. Will a tract offend some people?
  • Sure, is it because of the packaging? No, most people smile when you give them a million dollars. But, the gospel will offend (God promised that). Someone going out of their way to preach the gospel outside of church will rub some people the wrong way, but that’s exactly what we’re instructed and given the example to do in Scripture.
·       We see Paul taking the good news to people that weren’t looking for it at the Areopagus, to kings while on trial, in the marketplace going up to complete strangers. Acts says Paul’s “habit” was to preach in the synagogues on the Sabbath—If there was ever an opportunity to offend people, if ever a location not to go to, it was the synagogue—the national leader of the Jewish people, the leader of their temple, the High Priest, was responsible for Jesus’ death and they preached Christ there—in human wisdom it would have made much more sense to teach your people how to witness, teach them to build long term relationships and at a BBQ subtly bring up Christ—but in the wisdom of God, there was a desperate urgency to bring the lost to the gospel, as if they were heading for Hell… He became as a Jew to Jews, he brought it in a relevant way, but He brought a message many didn’t want to hear and certainly not the way he was bringing it.

It’s not an acceptable method, but an incredible method!
1.     People who would never come to church to hear the gospel
2.     Leaves an impression of warmth and a smile
3.     They realize this matters enough for someone to go out of their way to share it

S.6 | Pearl Harbor Bomber Saved by Tract

(By Sunny Shell)  [Captain Mitsuo Fuchida] led three successful air attacks: Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941; Darwin, Australia on February 19, 1942 and against the Royal Navy in British Ceylon (presently Sri Lanka) on April 5, 1942. [He was the one who made the famous call sign "Tora! Tora! Tora!" which means "Tiger! Tiger! Tiger" = the phrase by Fuchida meant that his air group had obtained complete surprise (just as a tiger would achieve utter surprise on a helpless prey).]

After the war, Fuchida entered civilian life as a very dissatisfied farmer after being a decorated and highly honored soldier. He began to wonder why he survived so many calamities while thousands around him died. Slowly his thoughts came to something he’d never considered: A Creator God. During this time of deep contemplation about life, Fuchida was summoned by General Douglas MacArthur to testify at the war crimes trials in Tokyo. One day, as he was getting off the train, he accepted a tract from an American. The tract was entitled, “I Was a Prisoner of Japan.” It was the salvation testimony of Sargent Jacob “Jake” Daniel DeShazer, a member of the Doolittle Raid, and a prisoner of Japan in Nanking, China for 40 months.

In this tract, Fuchida read that DeShazer was brutally mistreated by the Japanese officials and initially, he hated them for it. But after 25 months in prison, and multiple requests for reading material, the Japanese [complied] and gave the American prisoners Bibles. They were told they could keep them for only three weeks so DeShazer read the Bible with great fervency and passion. After reading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, DeShazer repented of his sins and received God’s free gift of eternal salvation through Jesus Christ and committed his life to sharing the Gospel with those who were once his enemies -- the Japanese.

Intrigued and baffled by such love, forgiveness and peace, Fuchida decided to purchase a Bible for himself. Just like DeShazer, Fuchida read it with fervency and passion. When he came to Luke 23:34 and read, “And Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.’” he finally understood how true peace could be obtained. On September 14, 1950, Fuchida became a new creation in Christ, after realizing he too, was one of those that Christ came to save, he asked the Lord for forgiveness (repented of his sins) and gave everything he had to his new Captain, Jesus Christ the Lord, who called him to be a minister of the Gospel of Peace, rather than a man of war.

Fuchida spent the next 26 years of his life as an evangelist.

Words of Comfort: Former U.S. Beatle’s Manager Praises New John Lennon Movie

“Genius will open your eyes,” according to Ken Mansfield, and if anyone could speak with authority about the Beatles, it is someone who was a member of their inner sanctum, and was on top of the Apple building in London as they performed for the last time. The Beatles turned to Ken Mansfield to run their record division and named him the U.S. Manager of Apple Records beginning in 1968. Mansfield knew the real John Lennon. “And that’s who we have portrayed in ‘Genius’—the real John Lennon.” So says award-winning Producer of the Los Angeles-based film company, Ray Comfort.

Comfort said, “It has twists and turns that you don’t expect. It has the same format that made our previous movie go viral, with millions of YouTube views. Genius shows another unheard of side of John Lennon and that will certainly ‘open your eyes,’ as Ken Mansfield so aptly said.”

Genius has been called a “chilling” movie on the life and tragic murder of John Lennon. Comfort added, “It’s chilling because it reveals what people will do for money. There are ordinary people out there who would kill you. All they need is the right money and the belief that they won’t get caught.”

The movie is being promoted as “33 minutes that will rock your soul,” and was released for free viewing on www.GeniusTheMovie.com to coincide with the December 8th, anniversary of the death of John Lennon.

Is Mary the Queen of Heaven?

From GotQuestions.org: The phrase “the queen of heaven” appears in the Bible twice, both times in the book of Jeremiah. The first incident is in connection with the things the Israelites were doing that provoked the Lord to anger. Entire families were involved in idolatry. The children gathered wood, and the men used it to build altars to worship false gods. The women were engaged in kneading dough and baking cakes of bread for the “Queen of Heaven” (Jeremiah 7:18). This title referred to Ishtar, an Assyrian and Babylonian goddess also called Ashtoreth and Astarte by various other groups. She was thought to be the wife of the false god Baal, also known as Molech. The motivation of women to worship Ashtoreth stemmed from her reputation as a fertility goddess, and, as the bearing of children was greatly desired among women of that era, worship of this “queen of heaven” was rampant among pagan civilizations. Sadly, it became popular among the Israelites as well.

The second reference to the queen of heaven is found in Jeremiah 44:17-25, where Jeremiah is giving the people the word of the Lord which God has spoken to him. He reminds the people that their disobedience and idolatry has caused the Lord to be very angry with them and to punish them with calamity. Jeremiah warns them that greater punishments await them if they do not repent. They reply that they have no intentions of giving up their worship of idols, promising to continue pouring out drink offerings to the queen of heaven, Ashtoreth, and even going so far as to credit her with the peace and prosperity they once enjoyed because of God’s grace and mercy.

It is unclear where the idea that Ashtoreth was a “consort” of Jehovah originated, but it’s easy to see how the blending of paganism that exalts a goddess with the worship of the true King of heaven, Jehovah, can lead to the combining of God and Ashtoreth. And since Ashtoreth worship involved sexuality (fertility, procreation, temple prostitution), the resulting relationship, to the depraved mind, would naturally be one of a sexual nature. Clearly, the idea of the “queen of heaven” as the consort or paramour of the King of heaven is idolatrous and unbiblical.

There is no queen of heaven. There has never been a queen of heaven. There is most certainly a King of Heaven, the Lord of hosts, Jehovah. He alone rules in heaven. He does not share His rule or His throne or His authority with anyone. The idea that Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the queen of heaven has no scriptural basis whatsoever, stemming instead from proclamations of priests and popes of the Roman Catholic Church. While Mary was certainly a godly young woman greatly blessed in that she was chosen to bear the Savior of the world, she was not in any way divine, nor was she sinless, nor is she to be worshipped, revered, venerated, or prayed to. All followers of the Lord God refuse worship. Peter and the apostles refused to be worshipped (Acts 10:25-26; 14:13-14). The holy angels refuse to be worshipped (Revelation 19:10; 22:9). The response is always the same, "Worship God!" To offer worship, reverence, or veneration to anyone but God is nothing short of idolatry. Mary’s own words in her “Magnificat” (Luke 1:46-55) reveal that she never thought of herself as “immaculate” and deserving of veneration, but was instead relying on the grace of God for salvation: “And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” Only sinners need a savior, and Mary recognized that need in herself.

Furthermore, Jesus Himself issued a mild rebuke to a woman who cried out to Him, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you" (Luke 11:27), replying to her, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it." By doing so, He curtailed any tendency to elevate Mary as an object of worship. He could certainly have said, “Yes, blessed be the Queen of Heaven!” But He did not. He was affirming the same truth that the Bible affirms—there is no queen of heaven, and the only biblical references to the “queen of heaven” refer to the goddess of an idolatrous, false religion.

Genius Launches Today!!!!

“What do you say to someone when they say that marijuana is from the earth?”

Chew on a rock. It’s from the earth too. God made them.

Common sense says that you shouldn’t smoke everything that comes from the earth. Ever hear of a Poison Ivy blunt? Me neither. So, why would we want to smoke weed? We know it has very damaging effects on your lungs, brain, heart, and makes you think in an intoxicated mentality?

1) It’s against the Law, thus is we rebel against it we are rebelling against God!

Romans 13:1,2 - “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.”

1 Peter 2:13–17 – “Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men—as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God. Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.”

2) It aims to destroy the Lord’s temple!

It has very damaging effects on your lungs, brain, heart, and brings an intoxicated mentality that will drive you to do things you might otherwise not do. Also keep in mind, some die the first time they smoke marijuana.

1 Cor. 6:19,20 - “. . . do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 – “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.”

3) It is a form of idolatry!

As soon as God says no and we do it anyway, we are exhibiting idolatry. We are rebelling from God in loving something else more than Him. He has made it clear this is sin. No excuse will do.

Mt. 22:37 – “Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”

Matthew 6:24 - 24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

As with all sin, it always wants to lead you deeper. Marijuana tends to be a gateway drug to even more serious and deadly drugs.

4) It is closely associated with witchcraft!

From GotQuestions.org: The apostle Paul lists sorcery as one of many sinful practices that mark the lives of unbelievers: “Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife . . . and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5:19-21).

Interestingly, the New Testament Greek word translated “sorcery” is pharmakeia, which is the source of our English word pharmacy. In Paul’s day, the word primarily meant “dealing in poison” or “drug use” and was applied to divination and spell-casting because sorcerers often used drugs along with their incantations and amulets to conjure occult power.

Sorcery is an attempt to bypass God’s wisdom and power and give glory to Satan instead. God has no tolerance for sorcery. In Deuteronomy 18:10-12, sorcery is listed among the sinful practices of the nations surrounding Israel. God calls it an abomination: “There shall not be found among you . . . anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD. And because of these abominations the LORD your God is driving them out before you.”

5) It is graffiti’s on the name of Christ on turns unbelievers away from God.

2 Cor. 6:3 – “We give no offense in anything, that our ministry may not be blamed.”

1 Corinthians 10:32 – “Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church of God.”

2 Corinthians 4:2 – “But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”
