Gospel & Info about CCN!

(Email from AA) “Sometimes it seems like the longer people are in the church, the stranger they become. For some their life revolves around small groups, fellowship potlucks, men’s and women’s events, etc. and they tend to become ‘weird’ and unrelatable to unsaved people, why is that? I don’t want become like that and possibly hinder the gospel, because people just don’t want to talk to me.”

1 Cor. 9:19-23: “For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.”

Speak in English not some foreign churchy lingo. Many have no clue what words like “saved,” “redeemed,” “born again,” or “repent” mean. Explain the concept along with the word or give a definition with the word, but don’t just confuse them. Be relatable and understandable.
One sincere, but misguided young adult once told me that as he was witnessing the person he was speaking with lit up a cigarette; he told them if they didn’t put it out he would leave. Talk about trying to clean a fish before you catch it! That’s a great way to run people away from God! Come on, lost people are lost. What do you expect? If they curse, don’t freak out. If you’re trying to pull a pig out of the mire don’t be surprised if you get some mud kicked in your eye. Love them. Be patient.
Don’t stalk them with Jesus. Don’t turn everything into a sermon. Be normal. Going all Nacho Libre on them and sneak attack baptizing them won’t help; it’ll just turn them off quicker than you can say, “Psycho.”
