Words of Comfort: Making Fun of Christians.

"Making fun of born-again Christians is like hunting dairy cows with a high powered rifle and scope." P.J. O'Rourke

Don't you love it when the bully who mocks the blind kid gets his face planted in the dirt? Such movies are heart-warming. The Bible says that there is a reason that Christians are the brunt of mockery. It's because “God has ensnared the wicked in his own craftiness." In this world, where the rich get richer and the poor get stomped on, God has done the most wonderful of things. He has chosen foolish things to confound the wise. He chose a cowshed to birth the Savior, a donkey to carry the King of Kings, humility as a way of salvation, a foolish message published in a Book full of foolish stories. Think of the humiliation if you become a Christian. You have to own Noah and the Ark, Jonah and the whale, Daniel and the Lion's den, talking snakes, talking donkeys, walking on water, and the foolishness of the cross. Self-proclaimed intellectuals will take aim at you and mock you for your foolish beliefs. You will have to bear what the Bible calls the "reproach of Christ." The door of eternal life is very low. The proud cannot enter. Such is the heartwarming wisdom of God.

This is an understandable reaction to an unbiblical presentation of the gospel. The popular “Jesus loves you” isn’t in the Bible. If you think it is, try and find even one instance of the apostles using that approach. It’s not there. If, however, that has been the way you reach out to the lost, please take the time to listen to “Hell’s Best Kept Secret” on www.livingwaters.com (it’s not about Hell). This is the same teaching actor, Kirk Cameron, heard back in 2001, and was so moved by it he called our ministry--and that was the beginning of a lifelong partnership in the gospel. It really is a life-changer, so don’t let anything stop you from hearing it and then passing it along.
