Words of Comfort: The Shelter

Atheist, Mark Fleming asked “Does God enjoy vengeance?

He certainly does, and so do I because I am made in His image. When I hear of some unrepentant raping murderer who laughed at the parents of the girls whose throats he slit, being brought to justice, I have great joy. I want to see equity. I want him to be punished for the sake of those girls--whose precious lives he cut short, for the parents who have been left with unending anguish, and for the sake of that which is right, good, and just.

The Bible says that God loves righteousness, justice and truth. In fact it uses personification to help us to understand this truth. It says that the trees of the fields will clap their hands and the mountains break into singing when God comes to judge the earth in righteousness. What a great day it will be when every murderer gets what is coming to him. What a day of rejoicing when each and every rapist receives perfect justice for his crimes. However, before we start rejoicing we need to understand that God is absolute moral perfection and He warns that the day of Judgment will be the day when thieves, liars, fornicators, blasphemers, the covetous, the unthankful, hateful, idolaters, and the lustful will be punished for their sins. That leaves all of us in big trouble. So run to the cross for shelter. Only in Jesus Christ will you find forgiveness of sins and escape the just damnation of Hell.
