Rap about Christ

(Email from Timothy) "While I believe that the Bible is completely true without error and contains no contradictions, there is one thing that has always bothered me. That is what Paul said about marriage in 1 Corinthians 7:8-9. In those verses, he said, ‘But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am; but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.’ But Proverbs 18:22 says, ‘He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.’ Maybe it's just me, but I cannot for the life of me understand how those two statements can possibly be in agreement with one another.
Everything else in the Bible seems to say that marriage is a good and honorable thing. However, Paul seems to be saying that marriage really isn't the ideal and that the only reason anyone should ever get married is to control their lustful thoughts. So does this mean that I am wrong for wanting marriage and a family? It just doesn't add up to me. Please help!”

John Piper sermon:
Paul promoted celibacy because he enjoyed serving Christ with as few distractions as possible, and he wanted that for others as well. The contemporary mood promotes singleness (but not chastity) because it frees from slavery. Paul promotes singleness (and chastity) because it frees for slavery—namely, slavery to Christ.
God has called many of you to a life of celibacy. The teaching of this passage for you is that this is a gift to be celebrated. You should be dreaming—as many of you are—how your freedom can be maximized for the cause of Christ here and around the world. You have some advantage that the married do not have.
As much as Paul would like to commend celibacy to everybody, he defers to the wisdom of God who calls some to marriage. Celibacy is not for everybody.
Marriage is a dam against the flood of fornication—sexual relations outside marriage

Wesley’s Explanatory Notes:
“’Eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake’ St. Paul, having tasted the sweetness of this liberty, wished others to enjoy it, as well as himself. But every one hath his proper gift from God - According to our Lord's declaration, ‘All men cannot receive this saying, save they,’ the happy few, to whom it is given," Mt. 19:11 .”

Matthew Henry Commentary (Concise):
The apostle tells the Corinthians that it was good, in that juncture of time, for Christians to keep themselves single. Yet he says that marriage, and the comforts of that state, are settled by Divine wisdom. Though none may break the law of God, yet that perfect rule leaves men at liberty to serve him in the way most suited to their powers and circumstances, of which others often are very unfit judges. All must determine for themselves, seeking counsel from God how they ought to act.

Words of Comfort: "worse than finding a six-inch horse hair in your peanut butter sandwich ..."

Atheists think Christians are weak because they have “faith.” So this should please them. Never have faith in an atheist. Don’t trust them for a second. This is because they are not worthy of your trust. Let me give you an example of how much integrity atheists have. I once wrote a book called, “You Can Lead an Atheist to Evidence, but You Can’t Make Him Think.” When it was first published, it was so popular it knocked Richard Dawkin’s book off the number one spot on Atheists panicked and immediately conspired to pull down the book’s ratings. And they certainly did. Over 200 of them rushed in and gave it a one or two-star rating, making out that they had read the book and saying that it was far worse than finding a six-inch horse hair in your peanut butter sandwich (disgusting thought). They were told not to make the conspiracy obvious, but they were about as subtle as an elephant standing on a ballerina’s foot. Check out their comments for yourself:

Always keep in mind that an atheism’s worldview allows them to lie through their atheist teeth. This is because they are desperately fearful of Christianity. The issue here isn’t evolution or the existence of God. It’s about the pleasure of guilt-free sexual sin. Christianity threatens that freedom by saying that fornication and lust are morally wrong, and that God will hold them accountable. So they fight the light with all their might and will hold back at nothing in their attempts to extinguish it.

Words of Comfort: Philosophy of Convenience

I was preaching open air at Huntington Beach in California recently, when a young man in the crowd asked me if I thought that God could have used evolution in creation. I told him that the two weren’t compatible because Jesus said that “in the beginning” God made them “male and female.” He disagreed, insisting that God and evolution were still compatible, so I asked if he was a Christian. He said that he was, so I double-checked by inquiring if he had been born again. He adamantly said he’d had the new birth, so I digressed slightly. I asked if he was having sex with his girlfriend. He became agitated, looked as guilty as sin, and said that I was using an ad hominem. I said that I wasn’t, and that I was asking him a simple question. He then became angry and used the “f” word, revealing the reason why he wanted God to have created everything using evolution. If evolution was true, then the Creator wasn’t the God of the Bible and there was therefore no moral accountability. Idolatry (making up your own god) certainly is the philosophy of convenience.

Brian Regan – “I walked on the moon” clip

If you’ve ever wondering what the thought process is for the show, we’d like to share with you a few snippets of a series of emails between Ray and E.Z. (you’ll “get it” more if you watch the Brian Regan clip first).

It started with someone sending out an email with a link to a video clip we were going to show.

I’ve seen this before.  I love this clip.

Same here. Love it too. More than EZ.

You can see my footprints, if you look closely. This picture is bigger than your moon picture.

Oh, how funny--that picture of me on the moon was taken during a pit stop while I was on my way to the edge of the Milkey Way Galaxy.  I took a quick jog around the perimeter of the dinky little thing.

3rd Heaven.

Can’t talk about it…

4th Heaven.

Won’t talk about it…

[Blank email reply]

You lose.  I win.

Nope. I went so high in the “Heavens” I didn’t say a word. Not nothing.

Yep.  I went so low in the “Heavens” that you could not go lower.  Yes everything.

Blah!! Dumb.

Bmud… Halb!!!

Not so. I was so high the in Heavens I didn’t say a word. Nothing. Jews rule.
Sorry to drag you other guys into this continual war.

(Comment on Ray’s Facebook, from Melissa): "Believe it or not, I used to be a Christian."
From Ray: I have a question for you Melissa. Please take a moment to carefully think of the implications before you answer. You said that you "used to be a Christian." So are you therefore saying that you knew the Lord. Is that correct?—because that’s the biblical definition of a Christian—to know the Lord. The answer creates a dilemma for someone who believes that she is an atheist. If you answer "Yes," then you are admitting, as a professing atheist, that God does exist. So you are forced to default to "I thought I did. But I didn't." So you didn't know the Lord. You were never a Christian. You had a false conversion. You are not alone. Millions have had false conversions and they sit in churches faking it. The Bible calls them goats among the sheep (goats in Israel can’t be easily distinguished from sheep). You, however, like many other false converts didn't stay among Christians and fake it for too long. You left the church, and became inoculated against the Christianity that you believe didn’t deliver its promises. Almost all in this category are the tragic result of a false gospel and they, like you, have been immunized against the truth. If you would like to know why and how you fell into deception, please take the time to listen to "Hell's Best Kept Secret" and then "True and False Conversion," These are free audios.

Words of Comfort: Evangelist Pleads for Backup Recruits

Hundreds, if not thousands of atheists have become “followers” on Ray Comfort’s Facebook page, and he says that he needs help to reach them. There has been an influx of 80,000 followers in the last two months, and according to Facebook statistics the page has a “weekly total reach” of over a million people.

Comfort said, “I have looked at a number of other Facebook pages, and have seen an average of 30-40 comments from followers, however, it is not uncommon to get over 1,000 comments on one post on my page (one had over 1900 comments). With six posts each day we can’t possibly answer all their questions, and so I’m asking Christians to come and help--because this is a very real battle for a generation.”

The best-selling author and TV co-host is a little mystified as to why so many would camp on his page. “I guess they are bored with their godless life. Atheists aren’t the intellectuals they think they are. They think there’s no proof for the existence of God. They are like fish in the ocean saying that there’s no proof that water exists. They make mindless statements, such as there’s no evidence that Jesus Christ ever existed. I guess they don’t know what year it is. Most Christians find it a little uncomfortable diving into evangelism, and so this is an easy way to get their feet wet.”

Comfort added a caution though. “You will need a lot of patience because many show up as though they are God’s intellectual gift to the world. They are extremely arrogant, very condescending, they say things that aren’t true, and they use worn out arguments. My advice is to wait for a minute to calm down, and then show them love and respect. It is tempting to give a quick sarcastic reply, and that just adds fuel to their fire. It’s also important to know that I deliberately create a ‘buzz.’ I say things like ‘Evolution stands in the way of the science of discovery, summed up in Einstein’s ‘I want to know how God created this world.’ This brings them out in force, and gives us an opportunity to give sensible and biblical answers to their questions and objections.”

Comfort said that at first they were vicious, but they soon learned that the site has rules--no bad language or bad talk about God. After over 500 were permanently banned from the site for breaking those rules, others have cleaned up their act. “Christians need to keep in mind that atheists’ worldview allows them to lie and twist the Scriptures. They mock creation, say that God commands murder and the rape of women, and that the Bible is full of mistakes. However, the issue here isn’t about evolution, or even the existence of God. It’s about the pleasure of guilt-free sexual sin. Christianity threatens that freedom by saying that fornication and lust are morally wrong, and that God will hold them accountable. They love darkness and hate the light, and so they fight it with all their might and will hold back at nothing in their attempts to extinguish it. This is a wonderful opportunity to reach a Hell-bound world with the gospel of everlasting life. Please help us.” Comfort’s Facebook page can be found at!/official.Ray.Comfort or by using the search-words “Ray Comfort Facebook.”

Ten Ways To Break The Stronghold of Pornography
by Ray Comfort
  1. Take some pornography to church and look at it during worship. You may as well; because God is just as present in your bedroom as He is in a building we call a "church."
  2. Face the fact that you may not be saved. The Bible speaks of false apostles, false teachers, false prophets, false brethren and false conversion (see Mark 4:1-20).
  3. Come to the realization that when you give yourself to pornography, you are committing adultery (see Matthew 5:27-28).
  4. Grasp the serious nature of your sin. Jesus said that it would be better for you to be blind and go to Heaven than to allow your eye to be offended, and end up in Hell (see Matthew 5:29).
  5. Those who profess to be Christians yet give themselves to pornographic material evidently lack the fear of God (Proverbs 16:6). Cultivate the fear of God by reading Proverbs 2:1-5.
  6. Open your Bible at Psalm 51 and make it your own prayer.
  7. Memorize James 1:14 and 1 Corinthians 10:13 and quote them when you are tempted.
  8. Make no provision for your flesh (see Romans 13:14). If you can't control yourself, you have to then get rid of every access to pornographic material--the Internet, printed literature, TV, videos and movies. Stop feeding the fire.
  9. Guard your heart with all diligence (see Proverbs 4:23). Don't let the demonic realm have access to your thought-life. If you give yourself to it, you will become its slave (see Romans 6:16). Read the Bible daily, without fail. Quote the Word of God when you are tempted (see Ephesians 6:12-20).
  10. The next time temptation comes, do fifty push-ups, then fifty sit-ups. If you are still burning, repeat the process (see 1 Corinthians 9:27, and 1 Corinthians 7:9).

Words of Comfort: Can You Imagine?

The Bible tells us that God’s Kingdom is coming to this earth, and that His will, will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. That means no more disease, fear, pain, suffering and death. Those who love God will be given ageless bodies, and the Scriptures tell us that we will have pleasure forevermore. If this sounds too good to be true, it would be if it was promised by some politician. But it’s not. This is promised by our faithful Creator, who cannot lie. We do have a problem though. The Bible tells us that all this will be so incredible we cannot begin to imagine what He has in store for those that love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9).

But I have some thoughts that may help a little. Imagine that you were there “In the beginning,” moments before God thundered “Let there be light.” He turns to you and asks if you can imagine what He is going to do over the next six days. You draw a blank. You have no idea what is about to take place. You don’t think of breath-taking sunrises and beautiful sunsets, full moons, glittering stars, crystal clear blue water teeming with colorful fish, a myriad of radiant flowers, amazing hummingbirds, the brilliance of the sun, the white sands and tall palm trees on beautiful beaches, massive snow-capped mountains, cascading waterfalls, or eagles flying across the sky-blue heavens. You don’t think of a favorite dessert, or a succulent drink, or incredible music, or the most mouthwatering chocolate that ever touched human lips. Neither can you begin to imagine that He is going to make massive animals with five-foot noses and three-foot ears, or tall yellow and black patchwork beasts with six-foot-long necks, or bouncy creatures that have a front pocket. You don’t visualize the faces of the cutest kittens, or adorable wobbly puppies, or huge whales leaping out of the ocean. You can’t conceive of even one of these things, because you too are just part of God’s amazing creation.

Now back in reality, we can see around us what God has created. However, all of this marvelously breath-taking beauty is part of what the Bible calls a “fallen” creation. It is under the Genesis curse of disease, decay and death. Nothing is as good as it should be. So take all these amazing things we have talked about and drop them all in a big old trash bin, because they are but rotten garbage compared to what God has in store for those that love him.

Save Pastor Saeed / Steven Curtis Chapman

From the American Center for Law & Justice (who is leading this campaign):
Iran is imprisoning and abusing an American pastor because of his faith. Iran, home of one of the world’s most radical Islamic regimes, is holding American Pastor Saeed Abedini because he is a Christian, refusing to release him, and subjecting him to unspeakable abuse.
At the ACLJ, we are launching an international campaign to free Pastor Saeed, and we need Americans to mobilize for religious liberty. Urge the President, the State Department, and every Member of Congress to take a stand for an American Christian.

(Email from Branden) "Hey guys, I was recently approached while open airing by a man who claimed that the Bible was wrong and it was just a rewrite of the story of Horus. Thoughts?"

Words of Comfort: Toy Swap.

If you are finding this economy tough, here’s a way to create some income. Go around your neighborhood and offer cash for old toys (every family has a pile). Keep your offers low. Clean and fix the toys and have a yard sale with a big hand-painted sign saying “Swap your old toy for a new one—for just one dollar.” Bigger or better toys would cost two dollars or more. This could save people big money at Christmas and birthdays. If it works, find a small empty store—tell the owner that you want it for a month to see if a new business will work. Offer him a very low rent saying that if it works, you will take it for longer. Use your hand-painted sign. Keep your costs very low. Call it “Toy Swap.” I started my own business doing a similar thing when I was 20, and I’ve been my own boss since (except for 3 1/2 years as a pastor). If you don’t try, you will never know. Do it. What Hollywood Believes – Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis gave his thoughts on religion: “Organized religions in general, in my opinion, are dying forms. They were all very important when we didn’t know why the sun moved, why weather changed, why hurricanes occurred, or volcanoes happened.” 168
According to Willis, “Modern religion is the end trail of modern mythology. But there are people who interpret the Bible literally. Literally! I choose not to believe that’s the way. And that’s what makes America cool, you know?”169

The popular actor brought up a good point. Why would anyone in his right mind believe the Bible, when it is full of stories that insult the intellect?
There are many reasons why I have no doubt it is the Word of God. Here is the main reason I believe it is the revelation of the Creator’s will.
I was converted to Christianity in the early hours of April 25th, way back in 1972. I was dumbfounded at what happened to me that night. The change in my life was radical. However, my amazement didn’t stop on the night when my eyes were suddenly opened to the reality of God. Over the following days the Scriptures actually told me about what I had experienced. It was like an instruction book that explained what would happen to an appliance after the power was switched on.
I felt like a completely new person. It was very strange. It wasn’t simply a change of mind, or a change of lifestyle. The transformation was deep within my being. I was astounded that I had new desires. In my 22 years of life, I hadn’t given God a serious thought for five seconds. Suddenly, it was all I thought about 24/7. Then I read this verse in the Bible: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”170
I was so different, it seemed as if I had been “born again.” Then I read in Scripture about the new birth. I read that God was at work within me giving me the desire and the ability to do what pleased Him.171 I would normally listen to music in my car, but instead I found myself turning the radio off because I had a peace I couldn’t understand and an inexpressible joy. Then I read in Scripture of a peace that passes all understanding, and joy unspeakable. However, my salvation wasn’t dependent upon newfound feelings or what I believed about the Bible, but on my relationship with the Savior. Salvation isn’t a matter of what you know, but who you know.
I not only believe the Scriptures because they describe my conversion experience, I believe them because they address the problem of my sinful heart. They give me information on the origin of evil, my guilt, the necessity for a payment for sin, the provision for my forgiveness, and absolute assurance of everlasting life. No other “Holy Book” does this.
There are other reasons why I believe the Bible to be the revelation of the Creator’s mind to humanity. The Scriptures contain hundreds of fulfilled prophecies, as well as many scientific and medical facts, written thousands of years before man discovered them. Here are some of them:
  1. Only in recent years has science discovered that everything we see is composed of invisible atoms. Scripture tells us that the “things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” (Hebrews 11:3).
  2. Medical science has only recently discovered that blood-clotting in a newborn reaches its peak on the eighth day, then drops. The Bible consistently says that a baby must be circumcised on the eighth day.
  3. At a time when it was believed that the earth sat on a large animal or a giant (1500 B.C.), the Bible spoke of the earth’s free float in space: “He . . . hangs the earth upon nothing” (Job 26:7).
  4. The prophet Isaiah also tells us that the earth is round: “It is he that sits upon the circle of the earth” (Isaiah 40:22). This is not a reference to a flat disk, as some skeptics maintain, but to a sphere. Secular man discovered this 2,400 years later. At a time when science believed that the earth was flat, it was the Scriptures that inspired Christopher Columbus to sail around the world.
  5. God told Job in 1500 B.C.: “Can you send lightnings, that they may go, and say to you, Here we are?” (Job 38:35). The Bible here is making what appears to be a scientifically ludicrous statement—that light can be sent, and then manifest itself in speech. But did you know that radio waves travel at the speed of light? This is why you can have instantaneous wireless communication with someone on the other side of the earth. Science didn’t discover this until 1864 when “British scientist James Clerk Maxwell suggested that electricity and light waves were two forms of the same thing” (Modern Century Illustrated Encyclopedia).
  6. Science has discovered that stars emit radio waves, which are received on earth as a high pitch. God mentioned this in Job 38:7: “When the morning stars sang together. . .”
  7. “Most cosmologists (scientists who study the structures and evolution of the universe) agree that the Genesis account of creation, in imagining an initial void, may be uncannily close to the truth” (Time, Dec. 1976).
  8. Solomon described a “cycle” of air currents two thousand years before scientists “discovered” them. “The wind goes toward the south, and turns about unto the north; it whirls about continually, and the wind returns again according to his circuits” (Ecclesiastes 1:6).
  9. Science expresses the universe in five terms: time, space, matter, power, and motion. Genesis 1:1,2 revealed such truths to the Hebrews in 1450 B.C.: “In the beginning [time] God created [power] the heaven [space] and the earth [matter] . . . And the Spirit of God moved [motion] upon the face of the waters.” Thus, the first thing God tells man is that He controls all aspects of the universe.
  10. The great biological truth concerning the importance of blood in our body’s mechanism has been fully  comprehended only in recent years. Up until 120 years ago, sick people were “bled,” and many died because of the practice. If you lose your blood, you lose your life. Yet Leviticus 17:11, written 3,000 years ago, declared that blood is the source of life: “For the life of the flesh is in the blood.”
  11. Encyclopedia Britannica documents that in 1845, a young doctor in Vienna named Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis was horrified at the terrible death rate of women who gave birth in hospitals. As many as 30 percent died after giving birth. Semmelweis noted that doctors would examine the bodies of patients who died, then, without washing their hands, go straight to the next ward and examine expectant mothers. This was their normal practice, because the presence of microscopic diseases was unknown. Semmelweis insisted that doctors wash their hands before examinations, and the death rate immediately dropped to a mere 2 percent.
Look at the specific instructions God gave His people for when they encounter disease: “And when he that has an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean” (Leviticus 15:13). Until recent years, doctors washed their hands in a bowl of water, leaving invisible germs on their hands. However, the Scriptures say specifically to wash hands under “running water.”
  1. “During the devastating Black Death of the fourteenth century, patients who were sick or dead were kept in the same rooms as the rest of the family. People often wondered why the disease was affecting so many people at one time. They attributed these epidemics to ‘bad air’ or ‘evil spirits.’ However, careful attention to the medical commands of God as revealed in Leviticus would have saved untold millions of lives. Arturo Castiglione wrote about the overwhelming importance of this biblical medical law: ‘The laws against leprosy in Leviticus 13 may be regarded as the first model of sanitary legislation’ (A History of Medicine).”173
With all these scientific facts revealed in ancient Scripture, how could any thinking person deny that the Bible is supernatural in origin? There is no other book in any of the world’s religions (Vedas, Bhagavad-Gita, Koran, Book of Mormon, etc.) that contains scientific truth. In fact, they contain statements that are clearly unscientific.
I also mentioned that the Bible contains hundreds of prophecies that have been fulfilled to the smallest detail. For example, there are over 300 prophecies relating to Jesus’ birth, ministry, death, and resurrection, each of which has been perfectly fulfilled. There are also numerous prophecies, commonly referred to as “signs of the times,” that are yet to be fulfilled. They stand as evidence to show us that we are living in the days immediately preceding the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, when He comes “with power and great glory.” Here they are for you to consider:174
There will be false Christs; wars and rumors of wars; nation rising against nation; famines; disease (pestilence); false prophets who will deceive many; and lawlessness (discarding of the Ten Commandments). The gospel will be preached in all the world. There will be earthquakes in various places; signs from heaven (in the sun, moon, and stars); and persecution against Christians in all nations. Men’s hearts will fail them for fear of the future; they will be selfish, materialistic, arrogant, and proud. Homosexuality will increase; there will be blasphemy; cold-heartedness; overindulgence; brutality; rebellious youth; hatred of those who stand up for righteousness; ungodliness; pleasure-seeking; much hypocrisy. False Bible teachers will have many followers, be money-hungry, and slander the Christian faith.175 Men will scoff and say that there was no such thing as the flood of Noah and that these “signs” have always been around. Their motivation for hating the truth will be their love of lust.176
The Scriptures tell us that these people make the big mistake of misunderstanding God. They don’t recognize that God’s time frame is not the same as ours. They think (in their willful ignorance) that His continued silence means that He doesn’t see their sins. In truth, He is merely holding back His wrath, waiting for them to repent and escape the damnation of hell. Jesus warned that the sign to look for was the repossession of Jerusalem by the Jews. That happened in 1967, after 2,000 years, beginning the culmination of the signs of the times.

Words of Comfort: Senseless?

"[As an atheist] do you really think I am senseless?"

Sir Isaac Newton (the Father of Science) used the word "senseless" when speaking of atheism. After speaking with thousands who believe as you do, I have come to the conclusion that atheism is more than senseless. For example, how about you make me a hummingbird, from nothing? You had better make two, because you will need both male and female for them to be able to reproduce. You could start by making a tiny brain, matching eyes, a heart, a liver, two legs, and matching wings that flap faster than the eye can see. You will also need to put “life” into the bird, so that the inanimate machine you have made can think for itself and fly. Isn’t it true that you don’t have a clue where to begin? Yet, as an atheist, you believe (and so does Richard Dawkins) that nothing made it from nothing. That is both scientifically impossible and ludicrous. To be honest, I'm intellectually embarrassed to be of the same species as those who believe such things.

Words of Comfort: Banned by the Bible?

“Things banned by the Bible: Shaving -Leviticus 19:27, Cursing - Ephesians 5:4, Gossip - Leviticus 19:16 Football on Saturdays - Exodus 20:8, Eating Lobster - Leviticus 11:10, Eating Pork - Leviticus 11:7, Cotton Polyester Blends - Leviticus 19:19, Associating with women who are on their period - Leviticus 15-19.” - Online Atheist

Even though this isn’t posed as a question and it’s stated in mockery, I have decided to address it because it’s common for atheists to make statements like this. This is a mixture of moral and ceremonial Hebrew laws. The moral Law (You shall not murder, steal, lie, commit adultery, etc.,) is binding on the whole of humanity. This is summarized in the Ten Commandments and encompasses gossip, cursing, lust and hatred. Its precepts are written on our hearts via the conscience, and each of us will be judged by it on Judgment Day (Romans 2:12, James 2:12). That’s why all of us need a Savior.

Then there is the ceremonial/dietary law in which God instructed Israel not to eat horses, camels, cats, dogs, lions, tigers, etc. Only those with a split hoof could be eaten. “Unclean” animals such as pigs and lobsters were forbidden, probably because they were scavengers and were therefore not good for their health. God also told them what to wear and the importance of resting one day each week. If they didn’t rest they were liable to suffer from stress, and if they mixed cotton and wool, it would make them sweat.

Christians are free to follow the dietary laws of the Old Testament, however, the New Testament tells us they have no influence on whether or not we enter the Kingdom of Heaven. These laws are not binding on our modern society as is the moral Law, so we can ignore them if we wish. But in doing so we are liable to end up with a stressed, diseased, overweight society that has to rub chemicals under its armpits to stop offensive odor.

Is The Trinity Unscriptural And Unreasonable?

Words of Comfort: Dive in...

“I have always ached to share my faith since I got saved 7 years ago, but I've always hesitated because I often viewed myself as a person who doesn't have the social skills for it, but I would love to start! My younger brother who got saved 6 years ago actually orders Bible tracts from and he shares his faith on a University campus here in my city, he also shares his faith at random on a daily basis and is in Bible college…But where to begin?” Janelle

You don’t need social skills to begin. All you need is a compassionate heart. The social skills will come as you step out in faith. Have you ever stood on the edge of an unheated swimming pool waiting to dive into the cold water? The longer you leave it, the harder it will become. You have to take courage and just dive in. Your flesh will feel it for a few seconds and then adjust to the conditions. So don’t hesitate—dive in. Go with your wonderful brother and give out tracts. You have a very real incentive to take the plunge. Human lives are at stake. Please know that I have fears every time I go to hand someone a gospel tract (I am serious). Every person I approach (no matter how unassuming) looks like a Goliath who is waiting to rip me apart and feed me to the birds. But I say to myself, “So what? How can I be concerned with my selfish fears when the person could be going to Hell?” There's no comparison between his fate and my fears. So I just do it. I say a warm “Good morning. Did you get one of these?” and let the chips fall where they may. After you have given out tracts for a while, take courage and say to someone who takes one, “It’s a gospel tract. What do you think happens after someone dies?” It’s an inoffensive question. Let them answer and then ask why they believe that. If you sink a little or take in some water, it will encourage you to make sure you stay afloat next time. If this still sounds a little scary, take the time to watch That will help you.

Today's Show Notes: Monday, 18th February 2013.

(Email from John) "I am a Police Officer in the State of Georgia and I have a question topic suggestion for On the Box, but before I get to that I just wanted to tell y’all how thankful I am for your team, a year and a half ago I was an atheist and now I am a Christian with a passion for evangelism and have been doing street evangelism and door to door evangelism for a few months now and planning on joining a prison ministry as well. I could go on and on but just wanted to thank y’all because y’all have been instrumental for me and my walk. Anyways, the other day I was watching a National Geographic documentary where a Catholic woman in Texas lost her faith and became a Muslim after she struggled with a question she heard someone ask a radio talk show host who apparently did not answer the question satisfactorily. The question is, “If Jesus is God, why does he pray to God?” If there is only one God that is formed by the trinity it would seem that since Jesus prays to God he is therefore praying to himself and therefore it is an argument against Christ’s deity because why would God pray to himself?"

Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11 that the head of the man is the woman in marriage, and that the head of Christ is God. And what he is illustrating there is that Jesus Christ, though equal to the Father, is submissive to the Father.

From GotQuestions.orgIt may sound strange to speak of subordination within the Trinity. After all, Jesus and the Father are “one” (John 10:30). Subordination makes us think of a lower rank or a subservient position. To understand how there can be subordination in the Trinity, it is important to understand that there are different types of subordination. The biblical or orthodox view of the triune nature of God acknowledges an economic subordination in the Trinity but denies the heretical view of an ontological subordination.

What does this mean? Simply that all three Persons of the Godhead are equal in nature. God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit all have the same divine nature and divine attributes. Contrary to the teaching of many cults, there is no ontological subordination (no difference in the nature of the three Persons of the Godhead). This means that Jesus is not a lesser god than God the Father, etc.

What the Bible does teach is an economic (or relational) subordination within the Trinity. The three Persons of the triune Godhead voluntarily submit to each other respecting the roles They perform in creation and salvation. So, the Father sent the Son into the world (1 John 4:10). These roles are never reversed in Scripture: the Son never sends the Father. Likewise, the Holy Spirit is sent by Jesus and “proceeds from the Father” to testify of Christ (John 14:2615:26). And Jesus perfectly submitted His will to the Father’s (Luke 22:42;Hebrews 10:7).

Economic or relational subordination is simply a term to describe the relationship that exists among God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Essentially, economic subordination within the Trinity refers to what God does while ontological subordination refers to who God is.

Biblically, all three Persons of the Trinity have the same essence and nature, but each One has different roles or activities when it comes to how God relates to the world. For example, our salvation is based on the Father’s power and love (John 3:1610:29), the Son’s death and resurrection (1 John 2:2Ephesians 2:6), and the Spirit’s regeneration and seal (Ephesians 4:30Titus 3:5). The different tasks that we see the Father, Son, and Spirit perform are the result of the eternal relationship that exists among the Persons of the Trinity.

Correctly understanding subordination in the Trinity helps us avoid several false teachings about the nature of God. Having a right view of God is important so that we do not manufacture a god in our own image.

Words of Comfort: Dumb Question.

Christians believe that God made man from soil. How dumb is that? If you just said an atheist-amen to the dumb question, then I’d like you to do something the next time you go shopping in a supermarket. Look at every food item and ask yourself whether or not it traces itself back to soil: potato chips, milk, cheese, eggs, butter, pancakes, bananas, bread, cookies, grapes, apples, beef, chicken, lamb, pork, popcorn, chocolate, cereal, coffee, strawberries, etc. It takes a little bit of backward thinking, but if you take the time to give it some thought, everything traces itself back to the soil.

Let’s do it with eggs. The eggs came from the chicken. The chicken ate the wheat to make the eggs, and the wheat traces itself back to the soil. When you were a toddler, your mother gave you milk that came from the cow that chewed the grass that came from the soil. Stated simplistically, milk is rearranged soil nutrients. So is cheese, butter, yoghurt and ice cream.

The substance of our bodies is made up of the food we ate, and all the food we ate traces itself back to the soil (Mother Earth). We are rearranged dirt. Coincidentally, science tells us that the same trace elements that make up soil are the same elements that make up the human body--carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus. When you die, your body will turn back into soil, and your soiled soul (if you are not trusting in Jesus) will return to the God you don’t believe in.

Words of Comfort: Horse Meat

There was a big fuss recently in Sweden about lasagna and burgers containing horse meat. Sweden is atheist heaven, and so there shouldn’t be any hard and fast table manners—other than “if it tastes good, eat it.”

So why aren’t cats and horses on restaurant menus in most countries? It’s because Judeo/Christian nations base what is right and wrong to eat on the rules God gave to the Jews. But if atheism has its way, we can expect restaurants to expand their menus to include eagle-wings, double-double whale burgers, fresh cat casseroles, and tasty little kitten fingers. When any nation forsakes God, it defaults to mob rule (what society dictates) and that can go anywhere it wants.

Words of Comfort: Kill The Spider.

"If you believe that the world is going to come to an end - and perhaps any day now - does it not drain one's motivation to improve life on earth while we're here?" Cyan Garamonde

Not at all. We desperately want to improve life on earth by stopping the mass killing of the unborn through abortion, the rape of women, pornography, greed, lying, child abuse, murder, theft, adultery, wife-beating, hatred, wars, etc. And the way to do that isn't just through protest or politics. All this evil is generated by one major cause. So if we want to deal with them, we have to deal with that cause. The best way to deal with the web is to kill the spider. The heart of the human problem is the sinful heart of the human being, and the only power that can change that is the gospel. There are many other problems, such as pollution, etc. I ride a bike to work, so that’s my little contribution towards a cleaner earth. But I don't stress too much about it because stress is a killer. Besides, those who love God are going to inherit this whole earth, without the Genesis curse--no earthquakes, tornadoes, pollution, hurricanes, disease or death. See for details.

Words of Comfort: Tailbone

I was speaking recently to a group of university students. When I said that I didn’t believe in evolution--that it was unscientific and unobservable, an atheist called out, “But what about the tail bone?” The human tailbone is said to be vestigial—that is, it’s an evolutionary left-over proving that we are related to primates. I said that it’s not a “tailbone,” but that it’s the coccyx vertebrae, and that it’s the anchor for 12 muscles that make it possible for us go to the bathroom: “The tailbone derived its name because some people believe it is a ‘leftover’ part from human evolution, though the notion that the tailbone serves no purpose is wrong. The coccyx is an extremely important source of attachment for tendons, ligaments, and muscles, though it is structured quite differently than other parts of the spine.”[1]

Of course this believer in evolution didn’t concede for a moment, and called out, “What about the appendix?” I then explained that the appendix, like the “tail bone,” isn’t vestigial in the slightest, and that it’s tied in with the human immune system. When he mocked that thought, I told him to Google it. Duke University said: “Appendix Isn't Useless at All: It's a Safe House for Bacteria, By Duke Medicine News and Communications. Long denigrated as vestigial or useless, the appendix now appears to have a reason to be -- as a ‘safe house’ for the beneficial bacteria living in the human gut.”[2] And so it is with each of the “evidences” that are held up as proof for the bogus science that is believed by so many.

Today’s Show Notes: Monday, 11th February 2013.

“Job 41 seems to be describing… a dragon! Did God create dragons? Could they have been dinosaurs?”

Job 41:15, 18-21 (the context describes a massive beast that swords and spears can’t stop):
“His rows of scales are his pride, shut up tightly as with a seal . . . His sneezings flash forth light,
and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. Out of his mouth go burning lights; sparks of fire shoot out. Smoke goes out of his nostrils, as from a boiling pot and burning rushes. His breath kindles coals,
and a flame goes out of his mouth?”

Was this merely powerful imagery to describe the animal’s ferocious power? Or perhaps a factual telling of a dragon? Numerous civilizations have dragon myths in their history, could they be based on fact? Maybe.

It’s important to remember, we only have skeletal remains of dinosaurs. They don’t tell us anything about hair, the color of their skin, or the chemical makeup within their body. The idea of having a fire-breathing animal is not far-fetched at all.

Today we see numerous animals than can create light: The chemical light produced by bioluminescence is found in many marine animals — jellyfish, comb-jellies, fish, crustaceans, bacteria, and others. God gave them these lights perhaps to help in searching for prey, to deter or confuse predators, for navigation, and to find a mate. Bioluminescence on land is less common, but glowworms and fireflies come to mind.

The electric eel can produce an up to 600 volt charge at will.

There is one animal in today’s world that reminds us how possible it is for there to have been dragons. It is called a bombardier beetle. This beetle is a native of Central America, and has chambers within its body that keeps separate hydroquinones and hydrogen peroxide, and when it needs to attack it mixes these chemical elements together and shoots them out of its body like a mini flame thrower. It sprays a high-temperature jet of gas for protection. Now, if a Central American beetle can do it, so could Leviathan.

“What does the Bible say about dinosaurs? Are there dinosaurs in the Bible?”

From The topic of dinosaurs in the Bible is part of a larger ongoing debate within the Christian community over the age of the earth, the proper interpretation of Genesis, and how to interpret the physical evidences we find all around us. Those who believe in an older age for the earth tend to agree that the Bible does not mention dinosaurs, because, according to their paradigm, dinosaurs died out millions of years before the first man ever walked the earth. The men who wrote the Bible could not have seen living dinosaurs.

Those who believe in a younger age for the earth tend to agree that the Bible does mention dinosaurs, though it never actually uses the word “dinosaur.” Instead, it uses the Hebrew word tanniyn, which is translated a few different ways in our English Bibles. Sometimes it’s “sea monster,” and sometimes it’s “serpent.” It is most commonly translated “dragon.” The tanniyn appear to have been some sort of giant reptile. These creatures are mentioned nearly thirty times in the Old Testament and were found both on land and in the water.

In addition to mentioning these giant reptiles, the Bible describes a couple of creatures in such a way that some scholars believe the writers may have been describing dinosaurs. The behemoth is said to be the mightiest of all God’s creatures, a giant whose tail is likened to a cedar tree (Job 40:15). Some scholars have tried to identify the behemoth as either an elephant or a hippopotamus. Others point out that elephants and hippopotamuses have very thin tails, nothing comparable to a cedar tree. Dinosaurs like the brachiosaurus and the diplodocus, on the other hand, had huge tails which could easily be compared to a cedar tree.

Nearly every ancient civilization has some sort of art depicting giant reptilian creatures. Petroglyphs, artifacts, and even little clay figurines found in North America resemble modern depictions of dinosaurs. Rock carvings in South America depict men riding diplodocus-like creatures and, amazingly, bear the familiar images of triceratops-like, pterodactyl-like, and tyrannosaurus rex-like creatures. Roman mosaics, Mayan pottery, and Babylonian city walls all testify to man’s trans-cultural, geographically unbounded fascination with these creatures. Sober accounts like those of Marco Polo’s Il Milione mingle with fantastic tales of treasure-hoarding beasts. In addition to the substantial amount of anthropic and historical evidences for the coexistence of dinosaurs and man, there are physical evidences, like the fossilized footprints of humans and dinosaurs found together at places in North America and West-Central Asia.

So, are there dinosaurs in the Bible? The matter is far from settled. It depends on how you interpret the available evidences and how you view the world around you. If the Bible is interpreted literally, a young earth interpretation will result, and the idea that dinosaurs and man coexisted can be accepted. If dinosaurs and human beings coexisted, what happened to the dinosaurs? While the Bible does not discuss the issue, dinosaurs likely died out sometime after the flood due to a combination of dramatic environmental shifts and the fact that they were relentlessly hunted to extinction by man.

Words of Comfort: Atheists Take the Cake

I heard someone say that creationists only believe in one real miracle—that God at one time miraculously created all things. But atheists who believe in evolution believe in trillions of miracles that happened over millions of years:

They believe that all the tiny flies, with their sniffing noses and compound eyes,

With their wings and other things

Such as tasting and hearing, are miracles of amazing engineering.

So are whales, with their breathing gills and massive tails,

And bees and fleas, dogs and frogs,

Cats and bats, and even the rats, and elderly ladies having chats.

Everything, from their eyes to their brain, from snowflakes to rain,

Everything, they have to concede, are truly miracles indeed.

So the next time you see clouds, the moon, or a shimmering lake,

Remember that as believers, atheists take the cake.

Words of Comfort: The Sound of Abortion

Thursday, February 7, 2013

Today’s Show Notes: Thursday, 7th February 2013.

(Email from A.) “I was wondering if tarot cards are okay to use. I personally just use them as a source of minor income for my family . . . I know all of the [Bible] quotes . . . [that it] expressly forbids divination, however this is currently our only source of income. People truly seem interested in this, and pay handsomely, I have read that they are only bad if you believe them to be.”

From The word divination comes from the Latin divinare, meaning “to foresee” or “to be inspired by a god.” To practice divination is to uncover hidden knowledge by supernatural means. It is associated with the occult and involves fortune-telling or soothsaying, as it used to be called.

From ancient times, people have used divination to gain knowledge of the future or as a way to make money. The practice continues as those who claim supernatural insight read palms, tea leaves, tarot cards, star charts, and more.

God tells us His view of divination in Deuteronomy 18:10: “There shall not be found among you . . . anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens.” First Samuel 15:10 compares rebellion to the “sin of divination.”

Practicing divination is listed as one of the reasons for Israel’s exile (2 Kings 17:17).Jeremiah 14:14 spoke of the false prophets of the time, saying, “They are prophesying to you a lying vision, worthless divination, and the deceit of their own minds.” So, compared to God’s truth, divination is false, deceitful, and worthless.

As Luke traveled with Paul and Silas in the city of Philippi, he recorded an encounter with a diviner: “We were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling” (Acts 16:16). The girl’s ability to penetrate mysteries was due to a demon that controlled her. Her masters received “much gain” from their slave. Paul eventually exorcised the demon (verse 18), freeing the girl from her spiritual bondage and angering the slave owners (verse 19).

Divination in any form is sin. It is not harmless entertainment or an alternate source of wisdom. Christians should avoid any practice related to divination, including fortune-telling, astrology, witchcraft, tarot cards, necromancy, and spell-casting. The spirit world is real, but it is not innocent. According to Scripture, those spirits that are not the Holy Spirit or angels are evil spirits.

Christians need not fear the spirits involved in divination; neither are Christians to seek wisdom from them. The Christian’s wisdom comes from God (James 1:5).
