Words of Comfort: H O P E

The word “hope” in the English language has become a weak word, possibly because so often hope doesn’t deliver.  We “hope” the home team will score in the last minutes of the game, but the clock runs out and they lose.  We hope grandma will get better, and she doesn’t.

However, “hope” in God’s promises are radically different. The Bible says that we have a hope that is as “an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast.” (Hebrews 6:19). Most things in which we put our hope (in this world) will often end up in disappointment. That’s the sorry well from which so much country music draws its material. However, if you put your hope in God, you will never be disappointed. This is because God cannot lie. He always keeps His Word.

The Scriptures say that if you are not born again and trusting alone in Jesus, you have no hope, and you are without God (see Ephesians 2:11-13). What a joy it is to have this immutable hope of everlasting life. If you haven’t got what we in Christ, I hope someday you’ll join us. Perhaps today. Tomorrow may not come. It won’t for 150,000 people.
